Bite One
Heraldsun.com.au leading online
Official industry figures from The Nielsen Company confirm heraldsun.com.au as Victoria's leading news and information website.

Heraldsun.com.au averages 5.6 million unique browsers per month - an increase of 1.6 million year on year and close to 200,000 more than theage.com.au. The lift in traffic is fantastic news for our advertisers who are now reaching an increasingly broad audience.

HWT digital editor Matt Pinkey said: "We take great pride in timely, comprehensive coverage of the news that matters to Victorians. We've also worked hard to assemble a team of journalists, editors, videographers, designers and coders who have taken our digital journalism to a new level. These figures reflect their outstanding commitment and the continual investment of time and effort into new ways of telling our stories."

The result was even more gratifying given it included a period when Australia's number one online fantasy football game', Herald Sun TAC SuperCoach, had finished for the season, Mr Pinkney said.

We also have lifestyle covered with travel (escape.com.au), health (body&soul.com.au) and parenting (kidspot.com.au).

Bite Two
Eight in 10 driven by carsguide
We've given our motoring liftout carsguide a cut 'n' polish.

Invoking our online reader panel, we asked readers about the new look and how they utilise the liftout.

Of those who noticed the changes to carsguide, three quarters felt the section had improved and 67 per cent agreed it had broadened the liftout's appeal.

We also found 82 per cent of readers felt carsguide was an important source of information when purchasing a car. Of those, 95 per cent used the motoring articles and 83 per cent the motor vehicle listings.

The internet (74 per cent) and newspapers (61 per cent) were found to be the top two most useful mediums for sourcing information about cars. And a massive 86 per cent of readers have taken action such as looking up a website or calling a car dealer after reading the section. One in five went on to purchase a vehicle.

Herald Sun carsguide plays a key role in the car buying process.

Special Bite
Potter promotion madness
To celebrate the release of the final Harry Potter movie, we teamed up with Warner Bros. to create Harry Potter: The Ultimate Collection.

With purchase of the Herald Sun, readers could take home a specially designed collector album, Harry Potter, Dumbledore and Voldemort replica wands, posters and over 150 postcards.

The exclusive promotion, made available only in the Herald Sun and sister News Limited metro newspapers around the country, was a huge success: Herald Sun circulation increased by 15,000 copies per day during the campaign.

HWT deputy marketing director Ben Godkin said: "Rolling out this initiative across four states was quite a challenge but the mastheads all worked really well together. We were delighted with the results and also very pleased that the collection played a major role in the success of the launch of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 for Warner Bros".

The collection followed the Harry Potter journey through the eight films and celebrated all the highlights through imagery and character profiles.

For information about our next major promotion, please contact Ben Godkin, deputy marketing director, on 03 9292 2899 or email godkinb@hwt.com.au
