WNAC-TV Promo and Final Sign-Off
Video recordings of the original licensee of Boston's channel 7, WNAC-TV, seem to be rare. But here we have unearthed an image promo that dates to the fall of 1981, near the end of Channel 7 under RKO General ownership.
General Tire and Rubber Company (later known as RKO General) operated Channel 7 from the station's first sign-on in 1948 until May 22, 1982, when New England Television Corporation began operation of the station as WNEV-TV. RKO General was deprived of WNAC after the FCC concluded it was unfit to possess a broadcasting license.
The promo seen here appears to be an in-house production rather than one made by an advertising agency. Possibly, it was created by RKO East, the east coast division of RKO General's video production business. RKO East was located in the RKO General Building in Boston's Government Center with Channel 7 and its sister radio stations, WRKO-AM and WROR-FM.
After the promo is WNAC-TV's final sign-off on May 22, 1982.
Today, the WNAC call letters are used by a small station in Providence, Rhode Island, that carries Fox programming. It has no connection with the original WNAC.
A few pieces of trivia:
* The original Ginsu knife commercial was produced by RKO East at WNAC in the mid-1970s.
* The studio camera seen in the promo at :28 is an RCA model TKP-45. It was designed chiefly for remote and handheld operation. Channel 7 used it for studio productions with an add-on remote control system, long before robotic cameras became commonplace at stations. The camera was nicknamed "Morris" by personnel.
* The announcer heard in the station sign-off is Leif Jensen. He was a longtime booth announcer at WNAC, beginning there in the 1960s and remaining at the station through the early years of WNEV's ownership. As of 2010, his son Gregg is employed as a news anchor by Boston's WBZ-AM.

From an original classic of Cinderella.
It become 63 years old. What news5aksionfan661 told me to do. At time, it wasn't with old film or film-o-vision. It wants it HD as an old logo.

WNEV-TV inaugural sign-on 1982
These are the first moments of Boston's WNEV-TV as the station signed on the air May 22, 1982. Until this FCC-mandated change in ownership, Channel 7 had been operated by a single licensee, RKO General, since 1948.
WNEV-TV changed its call letters to WHDH in 1990 when Channel 7's owner acquired WHDH-AM radio. It's interesting to note that WHDH was the call for Boston's original Channel 5 (1957-72).
In 1993, Sunbeam Television of Florida bought Channel 7.

WNAC-TV final sign-off 1982
These are the ultimate moments of Boston station WNAC-TV as it signed off for the final time on May 22, 1982. A few hours later, a new licensee, WNEV-TV/New England Television Corporation, took to the air.
The FCC stripped WNAC-TV of its license due to the malfeasance of its owner, RKO General/General Tire and Rubber Company.

WNAC Movie 7 Opening (1978)
From Boston's heritage Channel 7, WNAC-TV, comes this Movie 7 intro from 1978. Longtime viewers will recall that during Channel 7's WNAC/RKO General era, movies from the vast RKO film library were a staple of the weekday afternoon lineup. This clip was also from the period when Dialing for Dollars was also part of the movie block.
Channel 7 in general has changed logos/identities the most out of any other New England station. This Times-Serif "7" seen here was used from 1977 to 1980. NewsRoom 7, however, kept the logo into 1981, after the station had officially switched to the strip-layered "7" that lasted until WNAC's demise.

WNEV-TV promo 1982
During the summer of 1982, WNEV-TV/Boston aired its "New Day Dawning" promotional campaign to build excitement for the new Channel 7. The station came under new ownership in May 1982 after RKO General lost its battle with the FCC to continue operating Channel 7/WNAC-TV.

WNEV-TV Promos Composite
The FCC awarded New England Television Corporation a license to operate on Boston's channel 7 after stripping incumbent RKO General (WNAC-TV) of its authority. The new channel 7, WNEV-TV, began broadcasting on May 22, 1982.
WNEV changed its call letters to WHDH in 1990 to match those of a radio station, WHDH-AM, that the company acquired. Previously, this radio outlet was a sister station to Boston's original Channel 5, WHDH-TV, which departed the airwaves in March 1972.
Influenced by the financial difficulties of a national recession, New England Television sold Channel 7 to Sunbeam Television of Florida during the summer of 1993. As of 2010, Sunbeam is the current owner of WHDH-TV.
This sequence contains several promos from the earlier years of WNEV's history when the station stressed its local programming commitment.
* Two promos for "Look," an ambitious local TV version of the former print magazine of the same name
* "New Day Dawning" promo that heralded the arrival of the new Channel 7 in 1982
* Four spots that introduce news anchors Tom Ellis and Robin Young
* A news promo that features assignment manager Chuck Gordon as he gives an orientation to incoming newsroom interns
* A promo from the "Feel Good About That" image campaign of the mid-1980s
