EARLY 1900s-built houses fill Falcon Ave in Mile End with a strong sense of history not often seen in an up-and-coming suburb.
The inner-western suburb has been tipped by the property industry as a growth area since infrastructure and development around the area - including the tramline extension and the Entertainment Centre upgrade - were initiated.
Latest statistics from the Real Estate Institute SA shows that five properties have been sold this year on Falcon Ave.
Of those properties the average price was $494,000, with three classified as townhouses and two as houses.
Professionals agent John Lyrtzis says the area is ideal for the family demographic because it ticks all the boxes.
"It's close to town, the streets are full of spacious character homes and the area's more affordable than the eastern suburbs," he says.
Mr Lyrtzis is selling a four-bedroom, 1920s bungalow at 8 Falcon Ave for owners Gregory and Mary Yiannoulis, who have lived there for eight years and are selling because they have decided to move to the country.
Mrs Yiannoulis says she was first attracted to the house when living in Torrensville.
"I fell in love with it. I personally love old period homes and every time I'd walk past it I thought 'I would love to see inside'," she says.
"The street does have a lot of period homes so anyone looking for a period home should look in this area.
"Also, the area is conveniently close to everything and the neighbours are all lovely."
Dorothy Casey is selling her five-bedroom, two-storey house at 24 Falcon Ave through Professionals agent Dean Tripodi, after living there for about 20 years.
"I'm about to retire and I'm living in this huge old castle but it's too big for me. Time to move on to something smaller," she says.
"I bought here because the area is nice and stable with good family homes. "You get to know a few neighbours. It's a beautiful street and is close to everything."
