Home > Cannes 2011 - About Young Lions 18:45 AEST | 07 March 2011

Open to entries from each state nationally, the Young Lions competition challenges young professionals at the start of their careers in the media, advertising and marketing communications industry. Young Lions compete in two rounds of the Australian competition with three winning teams in the Print, Digital and Media categories announced in May each year.

The aim of the competition is to identify the hottest upcoming talent to represent Australia against other countries in the worldwide Young Lions Competition held in Cannes at The International Festival of Creativity (formerly International Advertising Festival) in June.

Winning teams will receive return flights to Nice, accommodation and registration to The International Festival of Creativity in Cannes with access to all the seminars, awards ceremonies, showcases and the Young Lions party. Registration also entitles participation in the Young Lions Zone that includes ten master classes and interactive kiosks showcasing winning work from the worldwide Young Lions competitions.

In Cannes the Young Lions are briefed by a client during the Festival, and then create and execute a campaign within 24 hours. The Australian teams compete against the other national representatives from all over the world for the prestigious Gold Medal.

The 58th International Festival of Creativity in Cannes will run from 19-25 June 2011.

First Round

In the first round of state based competition, you'll need to provide a written response to the brief, and shortlisted submissions will be invited to bring their solution to life in a 5 minute presentation to an industry panel of judges.

State finalists will be chosen from these presentations and move through to the second round.

Second Round

Here you'll have an intense three days and a shot at getting to Cannes. Representing your state, you'll compete against other state finalists, but before doing this, we'll help you out with a full day presentation skills training course from Metta Group.

First Round

In the first round you'll need to submit a response to the creative brief for print or digital. We need a worked up ad for print, but in digital this year we only need your idea on storyboard – no requirement to build the ad.

Our panel of industry judges will shortlists the best ads for competition in the national round.

Second Round

Here you'll be issued with a new brief for Print and Digital and have 24 hours to respond – just like Cannes. Our judges will reconvene and decide who will represent Australia in Cannes. The winners will be announced in Melbourne on May 19.
