COMMENT NEWS is distributed each Tuesday to the City of Gosnells and City of Armadale and extends into the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale. Increased residential development and redevelopment has seen significant population growth since the last census.

In the City of Armadale, significant commercial and residential development is creating diversity in housing options and a more vibrant town centre. New housing estates, ‘inner city’ apartment living, expanded retail areas, a business park and the $9million Australian Technical College campus are transforming the area and boosting population. Annual population growth in the City of Gosnells is well above the national average, with the revitalisation of older suburbs and development of new housing the City recorded over $200 million in residential building approvals in 2006 alone.

Separate houses are in the majority and there is a very high incidence of homes being purchased. The dominant household type is couples with children (notably <15years). The area has a mixed occupation profile with the highest proportion of workers employed in white collar occupations followed by semi-skilled/unskilled workers and trades.

Infrastructure and recreational facilities accompanying the growth and renewal have increased the area’s appeal and the future suggests long term growth.
