Having survived the fury of a category five cyclone in March 2006, the Innisfail Advocate continues to play a leading role in the district’s recovery following Cyclone Larry. Although its building was destroyed, the Innisfail Advocate set an example for its community by publishing its Tuesday edition just one day after the cyclone struck. The bi-weekly serves a multi-cultural population.

The district is one of Australia’s biggest growing areas for sugar cane and bananas.
