The South-East Advertiser area has a blend of old and new suburbs. Balmoral, Bulimba and Norman Park are well established, while Carindale and Carina Heights contain extensive newer development. Prestigious homes and streets dominate suburbs such as Hawthorne and Bulimba which are close to the Brisbane River. The area has also seen a big increase in unit development in suburbs closer to the city reflecting a growing demand for quality accommodation close to the Brisbane CBD. The Gateway Arterial Road forms the newspaper's eastern border, linking the area to both north and south coasts.
