Guardian Messenger
The Guardian is one of Messenger’s strongest publications, and has the highest percentage of readers aged 50+. It distributes to a large area generating a lot of local news and reaching a loyal reader base. The Guardian services the advertising needs of a number of commercially robust retail precincts.
To the south, Hallett Cove was established in the seventies to accommodate urban sprawl.
Glenelg, in the northern part of the Guardian’s area, is a retail and tourism focal point, and the setting for South Australia’s earliest white settlement.
The coastline defines the area, with kiosks, pubs, sailing and surf lifesaving clubs along the foreshore. Generations of locals have stayed in familiar and tightly held beach suburbs, with family homes purchased decades earlier appreciating sharply in value, not least due to the cooling sea breezes. The coast has also attracted its share of new home development.
Residents who live on the eastern side of the Guardian’s area, in Mitchell Park, Park Holme, Plympton, and Edwardstown, enjoy positioning between the coast and the city.
Westfield Marion Shopping Centre is South Australia’s largest, and like the nearby Flinders Medical Centre and University, provides a major source of employment.
