KANGAROO Island's Remarkable Rocks form the backdrop for part of a collaboration between YouTube, international musicians and Tourism Australia.
Taiwanese clarinetist Irene Chen and Sydney keyboard player Andy Bull visited the island last week in the Making Tracks project.
That teams four Australian musicians with four from overseas. They will take part in next month's YouTube Symphony Orchestra in Sydney. Participants had to audition by posting videotapes of themselves performing a new piece by Mason Bates on YouTube. The 101 winners perform Mothership, at the Opera House on March 20.
Tourism Australia managing director Andrew McEvoy said the project featured the musicians in locations. "What better way to showcase Australia's music, arts and culture than through these unique and highly personalised musical road trips," he said.
Chen, a soloist and chamber musician who has performed in Taiwan, China and the US, said Making Tracks was a great opportunity for her to experience different cultures and the landscape of Australia. Bull said it enabled him to "experience something more than urban spaces, and absorb the surroundings to compose". Making Tracks is at australia.com or on the SeeAustralia Facebook page.
