The Irish bouzouki is a development of the Greek bouzouki adapted for Irish traditional and other folk music from the late 1960s onward.

The Greek bouzouki, in the newer tetrachordo (four course/eight string, or τετράχορδο) version developed in the twentieth century, was introduced into Irish Traditional Music in the late 1960s by Johnny Moynihan of the popular folk group Sweeney’s Men, and popularized by Andy Irvine and Dónal Lunny in the group Planxty. In a separate but parallel development Alec Finn, later with the Galway-based traditional group De Dannan, obtained a trichordo (three course/six string, or τρίχορδο) Greek bouzouki on his own. With a few exceptions, bouzouki players playing Irish music tend to use the instrument less for virtuoso melodic work and more for chordal and contrapuntal accompaniment for melodies played on other instruments such as the flute or fiddle. Because of this it is common to use matched strings on the two bass courses, tuning to unison pairs in order to enhance the bass response of the instrument.

Ian Stephenson (Born 11 January 1934, Died 25 August 2000) was an English abstract artist. Stephenson trained at King's College, Durham along with Noel Forster and had his first solo show in London at the New Vision Centre in 1958. An exhibition of his work was exhibited at the Hayward Gallery in 1977 and his work can be found in the collections of the Tate, the British Council and Whitworth Art Gallery. His work was also featured in the 1966 film, Blow-Up by Michelangelo Antonioni.

He returned to King's College, Durham to teach with Victor Pasmore and Richard Hamilton. Since his death, his work has been exhibited at the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill on Sea and the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead.

Stephenson's work was characteristically made by splattering droplets of paint onto paper or canvas and repeating this with many different colours. Because the layers are applied quite widely the final look effect is determined not only by the colour and quantity of the spots of paint but by the order in which they were applied.

He also presents a Spanish football programme, La Liga Weekly, for Sky Sports News Radio. Andy can also be seen and heard on Sky Sports News, Final Score, Radio France Internationale and Real Madrid TV.

In the past, Andy has presented and covered several different sports for the BBC. He fronted the 'Community Feature' on Match of the Day and he is still the youngest journalist to have been on air on BBC Radio 1.

Andy began his broadcasting career with Takeover Radio - the children's radio station based in Leicester and aged fifteen, he was named as the 'best newcomer to professional radio under the age of twenty-five' by the Radio Academy.
