In Townsville Yasi's force has cut power to the city's major water and sewerage plants. The drinking water supplies could run out as early as tonight if people don't use what's left sparingly.

Fifty Mission Beach locals bunkered down at the Castaways resort overnight describing the sound of a wind like a 747 jet engine next to their window. The resort suffered some damage but is back open, housing police, SES workers and cyclone refugees, and locals without power are storing their food in the resorts cool room. More

The entire banana crop of Tully grower Len Collins has been destroyed. He says his loss is in the millions and he'll have to lay off his hundred workers.

As Cyclone Yasi continues to be downgraded the weather system is dumping rain across Queensland's tropical interior. As the weather system heads towards the Northern Territory authorities are preparing for flooding and damaging winds in Central Australia.
