Blogs about: Art

Art can be made with crayons, or it can be made of crayons. Art is different for everyone, but what stays universal is versatility, beauty and a fearlessness to try something new. Opening sequences of movies turned into art? Yes, indeed. Boring old infographics taken to new heights? Sure, we like it. Converse sneakers melting into feet? Sign us up (well, maybe. It’s cool if you don’t look at it for too long). The more you dig into the world of art, the more infinite it seems. Kinda like one of those pretty fractal thingies. Let’s dive in.

Two more sleeps!!!
Tamar's Blog

My son is starting school come Monday and it’s only two more sleeps!! Where did the time go? Five years have gone swiftly yet not unnoticed as It’s been full of drama’s and joys. I know he’s ready to go because he’s been like a cooped up puppy this last week of holidays. I’m confident he’ll be fine, he’s going into an IO class of only five children. He will get the nurturing he needs and because the school has a wonderful integration program he will be challenged as well. The real issue here is, will I be ready and am I prepared enough? I’m having anxiety just thinking of his lunch box!!! will he have enough food and do I wrap his sandwich in glad wrap?? Have I got the right shoes and I’ve just realized that I’ve purchased nothing to fill his pencil-case!!!! How did Mum handle my first day of school?  I was determined that I was not going to school and back then they didn’t have “transition to school” d

Conquering my SCI-FI side
Once upon a time in Atlanta...

Ayyyyy! I am having such a tough day. I woke up this morning, went to breakfast, and went back to sleep. I woke up, have lunch, and here I am, sitting next to Talo( gigantic pink elephant,I believe I have mentioned him in one of my other posts; I suppose someday I will post a picture, but I want to keep the suspense) and planning what to do today. I cannot express in words, how grateful I am that I do not have classes on Fridays; if I was not so sleepy I would be doing my best version of the happy dance. Well, I think I have earned a day off after the longest day known to mankind that I had yesterday. I woke up at 8 and finish my classes at 6. I know, people who actually have a job, work longer hours that I do, but what can I say, recently I am experiencing my lazy side( but do not tell anyone, if not they will believe that stereotype about us Spaniards being a little bit idle). Trust me it was a long day, basically, because my last class started with a presentation. One of my fellow c

Watercolor 101- Paper and Paints- What you need to know to get started

Buying Watercolor Paints-  If you want to be in control and save money you can buy individual pans or tubes of watercolor.  If you want it to be easy for you it is okay to buy a set too.  The same thing goes for paints as it does for brushes.  There is a huge quality difference between cheap and middle priced, but not a huge-huge difference between mid priced and super expensive paint.  If you are buying a set you will not need to worry about selecting colors for the most part.  Most sets are pretty good about putting the primaries in and then a bunch extra. warm and cool primaries 1. Choosing paint colors-  With watercolors you can mix most of the colors you need.  What you surely want to get are all the primaries.  Primary colors (red, yellow and blue) come in warm and cool varieties.  I made a graphic above with as close to the warm and cool primaries that were safe for web.  Some monitors may vary but it still should be understandable.  The left side of the picture has cool toned p

Day 28: Fog City
Bombefleur

After several days of summer-like weather, we received a rude awakening; 50 degree weather with zero visibility. I know, I shouldn’t complain. It’s January and 50 degrees. But the temperature change occurred so suddenly. So I decided to capture the fog and the chilly weather. Using a piece of cardboard I had handy, I created streaks of fog by cutting out the top layer of the board. Fog City, starting point I liked the effect so I continued to cut out pieces from the cardboard. Fog City, cardboard Final piece below. It definitely looks better framed. What do you think? A Little Something For You
My Smiling Heart

Hello awesome people! As a part of the art subject that I’m doing online, I had to make a 30 second stop motion animation. I decided to make something with a positive message, that I could share with all of you – my amazing readers, twitter followers & facebook fans. Keep in mind though, this is the first time I’ve ever done any sort of animation work, so apologies for it’s not-so-good quality! I hope you like it anyway Everything You Need Is Within from Jen Saunders on Vimeo. In other news, you may remember me mentioning something called the Love Bomb a few months back, well this week’s recipient is someone I know & respect. Brianne, the inspiring woman who runs I Want Her Job & ran the Likes For Learning campaign that I helped out with recently, lost her best friend in a car accident this week. As part of the Love Bomb mission, people visit Brianne’s latest blog post & leave her a supportive, love-filled comment. It would mean a lot

Bare all? Thoughts on Journaling
Text/Isle

At my fibre arts group meeting the other evening we were discussing journaling. Some of us do morning pages, myself included.  Others find it not to their liking.  Mine are illegible scrawls half in shorthand and sometimes I can’t read my own writing even that same day.  Periodically I recycle old pages as I feel the need to do that. I do review them right after writing and  mark anything with creative potential with orange pen.  Iif it’s quick to do, “sketch coffee mug in pen and ink,”I put it on my to do list for the day.  Longer projects are noted in a sketchbook, e.g. “make pillowslip with new green fabric.”  If my morning pages have gone into more detail I will photocopy the page and stick it in the sketchbook, “what if I made rectangular blue and green blocks and sashed with peach batik?” especially if I drew a diagram to jog my memory. One fellow artist shared that she’s afraid of keeping a journal because people might not li
