Kastraten - Gesang nach Messers Schneide (Pasticcio - Trailer)
"Kastraten - Gesang nach Messers Schneide" (Castrati - Singing on a Knife Edge) was performed at the Handel Festival in Halle in summer 2009. Hendrik Müller directed Tina Hartmann's pasticcio that combined music by Handel, Vivaldi, Monteverdi, Arne, Broschi, Purcell, Ravel, Stravinsky as well as pop songs. All musical arrangements by Barbara Rucha. Robert Crowe, Roland Schneider and Myrsini Margariti / Juliane Hollerbach star in this production, that draws an arc from the past to our present: we trim our bodies to the latest fashion dimensions, already children suffer from psychological and physical damage resulting from eating disorders, daily over-exploitation of body and soul enables us to achieve more and show greater prowess in work or sports. Nowadays, the actual act of castration has vanished into veterinary medicine. But castration survives in our society's mental attitudes, influencing our self-image and hence determining our lives in many different ways.
