San Francisco Bay Area's Native American community faces
disproportionately high rates of diabetes, heart disease, obesity and
other health issues. In Alameda County alone, 6.9% of deaths among
Native Americans are directly due to diabetes.
Seva, in
partnership with Oakland's Intertribal Friendship House, are bringing
inter-generational gardening activities, nutrition and cooking
classes to serve this community. Our holistic approach to health is a strategy that
reconnects the urban community with traditional health systems, thereby
building pride and self-sufficiency.
