On 15th and 16th January we are calling a gathering for all networks and individuals that
are oppositional, non hierarchical and opposed not only to the cuts, but to capitalism
itself. ---- Across the country local groups have sprung up, and networks have worked
together to pull off some amazing protests, but we want to go further... From peoples
kitchens to action medics, action support to workshops. --- If we would like to see anger
around The Cuts over the next few years become strong movements then it is not only
necessary to establish this infrastructure, but to base them in a wider discussion - we
will hopefully be inviting delegates from occupations and actions across the country to
this end. -- FOR MORE INFO AND TO SUBMIT PROPSALS AND AGENDA POINTS networkxuk@gmail.com A

Eleven years have passed since the day when, during a revolt by some migrants detained at
the "Serraino Vulpitta" detention camp, mattresses were set alight in protest and the
guards, unappreciative of the danger of the situation, failed to open the cages. The blaze
caused the deaths of 6 people. ---- Today the situation has not changed at all.
Governments have changed, but the racist policies go on and only get worse, fuelling the
war between the poor that suits the bosses and our rulers. And so we see the birth of a
new, bigger and more isolated structure, a new Centre for Identification and Expulsion
(CIE) in Milo, on the outskirts of Trapani. ---- People continue to die and be imprisoned,
guilty only of being "clandestine", a crime introduced with racist laws such as the
Turco-Napolitano and Bossi-Fini laws which set up the CPTs (Temporary Stay Centres), now

Analysing human societies as complex systems can provide an insight into historical
processes and the strengths and weaknesses of capitalism Complex systems theory is a
scientific theory coming out of a tradition of catastrophe theory, chaos theory, control
theory, and especially cybernetics. Complex systems theory arises as a rejection of the
traditional programme of reductionist science. It rejects reductionism as being both
unnecessary and intractable. ---- Traditional physics has attempted to find fundamental
laws at the smallest granularity possible. However, it is now known that because of the
nature of interactions at very detailed granularity, it can be computationally intractable
to predict behaviour of aggregate systems. Water, for instance, is best described (under
most conditions) with fluid flow equations which describe aggregate behaviour with

From the webpage of the Israeli main daily most of the Israelis read. Two articles about
the two main joint one sided non violent popular struggles: The militant struggle of the
very small village of Nabi Salah which expand the struggle beyond the resistance to
separation fence, and start to compete for attention with the 6 years long Bil'in struggle
which is never out of the media. ---- Nabi Salah battle to span generations? ----
Spat over local spring turns into violent clashes between Palestinian protesters, security
forces ---- Almost a year has past since the confrontation between Neveh Tzuf settlers and
their Palestinian neighbors in the West Bank village of Nabi Salah erupted over usage of
local spring water in the Ramallah area. ---- What began as a small argument soon turned
into a routine brawl between the security forces and the locals, who are supported by

This is one of the slogans under which the anarchists were made on Dec. 19, 2010 during
the rally on October Square in Minsk. Their presence was accompanied by a game of drummers
from Samba band and distributing leaflets with the sarcastic headline "Election Program
anarchists", which explains in detail the position of anarchists about the elections, the
authorities in general and of society. The text of the leaflets can be seen here. The
activists held banners "The alternative is" and "Freedom for political prisoners Nicholas

By Cordelia Fine, W. W. Norton & Company, New York, 2010. 338 pages. £14.99. --- We
introduced the concept of Neurosexism in Organise! 72. This is a term coined by the author
Cordelia Fine who is currently a Senior Research Associate at the Centre for Agency,
Values & Ethics at Macquarie University in Sydney, and an Honorary Research Fellow at the
Department of Psychological Sciences at the University of Melbourne. In this excellent
book, the author has collected a convincing body of evidence to show that there are no
major neurological differences between the sexes, so the idea that ‘Men are from Mars,
Women are from Venus’ is completely debunked from a biological perspective. She shows that
there are almost no areas of performance that are not touched by cultural stereotypes. The
idea of hard-wired difference that is supposedly backed up by the neurosciences is shown

Student strikes and struggles continue to hit all of Britain. The following article was
written by a member of the Sheffield branch of the Anarchist Federation. ---- “This is
only the beginning.” ---- This has been the almost universal message from students who
have been engaging in and pushing for more direct action in the growing movement against
austerity cuts. The signs so far have been encouraging. The occupation of Millbank Tower,
the Conservative Party Headquarters, on 10 November1 served as an ignition point for an
escalation of resistance, evident in the numerous occupations and demonstrations over the
past month from Brighton to Aberdeen. Most recently, a protest of near 100,000 in London
on 9 December coincided with the government vote to raise the cap on tuition fees. ----
Students are very much taking the struggle against fees and cuts into their own hands.

This new pamphlet is one product of the developing anarchist scene in Bristol (a recent
Anarchist Bookfair attracted over 600 people). Steve Hunt attempted to find out whether,
historically, there was a local tradition in Bristol and the West Country. ---- In some
ways he has succeeded. He has relied mainly on books on the area and on radicalism as well
as some research on the Internet. Unfortunately, he appears not to have consulted either
the archives of the local press or of the radical, socialist and anarchist press of the
time. So there are some gaps that need filling in as we learn from this interesting little
pamphlet that there was indeed anarchist activity in the city. -- After London, Bristol
was the second city of England in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Chartism became
a notable force in Bristol, and Steve spends some time looking at the prehistory of the

From the 1850s onwards, against a background of great new wealth in society and a working
class that was more independent and resourceful, the 'problem of democracy' became urgent
for the rich and powerful. In general wealth was rising throughout society, but so was the
greed of those who owned the new factories, mines and plantations. The key question was:
what was to be done about the general demand for democracy, and about the incessant
clamour for political rights which, during the revolutions of 1848, had almost got
completely out of hand? ---- Maintaining their privilege and wealth while generally
conceding a semblance of democracy was the principal aim of the 'rich and privileged'
during the second half of the 19th century. Parliament is a means of diffusing democracy,
of channelling real struggles into a safe dead-end. Time and time again it has become a

With the death of Georges Fontenis one of the last important figures of the French
anarchist movement of the 1940s and 1950s has disappeared. He was one of its most
controversial, who even today inspires either hatred or respect. He was born on 27th April
19th 1921 in the Lilas quarter of Paris, into a working class family, the son and grandson
of militant socialists. He made contact with the anarchist movement through Spanish
solidarity work in 1936, joining a group of young militants. In 1944, he joined the
underground CGT (the main French union central), became the secretary of the Jeunesses
Anarchistes (Anarchist Youth) and took part in the commissions to root out Vichyists in
national education in 1945 as member of a teachers’ union. He took part in the
reconstruction of the anarchist movement in 1945 and the founding of the Fédération

José Antonio Gutiérrez D. & Seán Flood chart the course of global geo-politics since the
end of the Cold War, the emergence of new regional powers and the recurring cycle of
crises in neoliberal capitalism that culminated in the great financial crisis of 2008
------- Capitalism, after decades of steady growth and seemingly never-ending prosperity,
received a shock during the crisis of the early 70s. That particular crisis signalled the
formal end of Keynesianism and marked the emergence of neoliberalism as the dominant
capitalist mode of accumulation. --------- What we may be witnessing is not just the end
of the Cold War, or the passing of a particular period of post-war history, but the end of
history as such: that is, the end point of mankind’s ideological evolution and the
universalization of Western liberal democracy as the final form of human government. -----

âLife expects of you duties which appear repugnant to you. You must now know that the most
important thing is not duties but what permits you to be someone good and just. There are
many who will say to you that this is a piece of asocial advice, but you only have to
reply to them: When the forms of society are so hard and hostile to life, it is more
important to be asocial than inhumanâ (Stig Dagerman). ---- âI believe that manâs
natural enemy is the mega-organization because it robs him of the vital necessity to feel
responsible for his fellow-man, restricting his possibilies to show solidarity and love
and instead turns him into an agent of power, that for the moment may be directed against
others, but ultimately is directed against himself.â ---- Stig Dagerman was born in Sweden
in 1923. He was the son of working class parents, his mother a telegraphist and his father

The seams of the Israeli "democracy for Jews" start to crack.... It is a naked case of a
ridiculous "illegal assembly" applied to a critical mass ride we did on Thursday, 31st
January 2008, against Jonathan Pollak who is regarded by the Israeli not so secret
services as a main leader of the Israeli anarchists agagainst the wall. Jonathan was
nicked in the middle of the ride when we traveled a road not far from the sea shore. ---
"The verdict in the case of Israeli activist Jonathan Pollak, charged with illegal
assembly for his participation in a January 2008 Critical Mass ride against the siege on
Gaza, will be handed down on December 27, 2010 at 10:00 at the Tel Aviv Magistrates Court.
If convicted, Pollak is expected to be sentenced to three to six months in prison. A
conviction in this case may activate an older three month suspended sentence, imposed on

WSM Global Finance Research Project ---- George Stapleton charts the historical
development of the global financial order under US hegemony since World War 2. ---- This
is the second of a series of articles covering the financial and money markets from a
critical perspective. However, this article is completely independent of the first
article, ‘Financial Weapons of Mass Destruction’, which appeared in the previous issue of
Red and Black Revolution. ====== In ‘Financial Weapons of Mass Destruction’ Paul Bowman
examined the derivatives market and promised that the succeeding article would cover the
‘story of the historical development of successive regimes of global financial orders’ and
would explain the role of the Eurodollars market ‘in undermining the Keynesian Bretton
Woods system’. ---- In the interests of space and relevance however, this article only

This is the first general strike in Portugal for the last 22 years and that alone should
shed some light over the social situation in this country. In fact, social conflictuality
in Portugal is quite low and the number of strikes has actually been falling for the past
thirty years, despite the continuously worsening situation of the Portuguese working
class. Unionization rates tend to fall as well, as the two large Portuguese party-run
Trade Unions serve more to appease and stall conflicts than to fight exploitation and that
hasn't gone unnoticed. ---- Portuguese society has gone trough considerable changes for
the past half-century, going from a rapid industrialization starting in the 1960's, fueled
mostly by the influx of foreign capital, from which a more combative and organized
working-class would emerge, to an equally rapid de-industrialization, as cheaper sources

Delegates to the Tenth Congress of the National Confederation of Labour (CNT), which is
being held in Cordoba from the 4- 8 of December, show our concern about the decree
proclaimed by the government establishing constitutional legal concept of the State of
Emergency. This means removing certain civil rights in favor of the military and putting
civilian workers in their service using threats of bayonets and imprisonment. These
authoritarian measures that are taken to address a labour dispute, regardless of
corporatism on this occasion, through Francist laws that use the army as a tool against
labor disputes, clearly show the hidden face of this bourgeois and fascist constitution.
-- Opening the way to confront a labor problem by resorting to the military reveals the
true face of a government that, like all others, does not hesitate to take off its

In August 2007 the world’s financial systems started grinding to a halt as financial
institutions began to realise that they had no real idea of the risks that were contained
within the complex financial instruments that they owned. Since the bankers couldn’t work
out exactly how risky their own securities were, they certainly weren’t going to trust the
assurances of other institutions. Due to the complexity of the inter-relationsihps within
the financial sector, this resulted in the credit market basically shutting down. The
financial institutions were no longer willing to lend money to any of their peers as they
thought it was far too risky. This was known as the Credit Crunch. ---- As 2008
progressed, the credit market remained closed and it became ever more apparent that the
reluctance of the bankers to make loans to one another was well-founded.

---- Sonae industrial accident claims two lives ---- Two workers have been killed at the
Sonae industrial plant in Kirkby after they were reportedly dragged by a conveyor belt
into the workings of a silo. It is believed that James Bibby (24) and Thomas Elmer (27)
had been contracted in to carry out maintenance work at the plant which manufactures
wood-based panels for use in the furniture and construction industries. One Sonae worker
told the Liverpool Echo: "For a long time, staff have been warning about concerns over
safety at the plant." Previously, the plant has been the scene of chemical leaks, fires,
as well as other industrial accidents. Residents on the nearby Northwood estate have also
raised environmental concerns about Sonae, claiming that emissions coming from the plant
were having an adverse effect on their children’s health.
