It follows their story without ever resolving, it just kind of revolves around a night and everything that brought them there. We tried to give the song more of a live recording vibe and [make it] super-driving to convey the sense of urgency within the story. We recorded the drums and guitar live in upstate New York and the rest I did at St. Marks studio, which is what I call my studio at my apartment on St. Marks in Manhattan." -- Singer/guitarist Richie James Follin

2010 was a banner year for the Canadian music scene. Festivals like Toronto's NXNE blew up bigger than ever, indie darlings like PS I Love You and Diamond Rings debuted to rave reviews, and established artists like Broken Social Scene and Tegan and Sara proved they're at the top of their game with no end in sight. To mark the year's close, we've assembled some photographic highlights of musical moments captured on stages across Toronto by Chromewaves' Frank Yang. Happy New Year!

We decided to kick off our music gallery with a rock star everyone knows and loves and who better than the godfather of punk, Iggy Pop. The artist headlined a rocking (shirt-free) outdoor 90-minute concert as part of NXNE for 10,000 fans in downtown Toronto on June 19, 2010

He showed critics and fans that he can still rock with the best of them and brought downtown Toronto streets to a standstill with his public performance at Dundas Square.

The Flaming Lips brought high-end theatrics to the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto on July 8, 2010. Only frontman Wayne Coyne could stand on the shoulders of a man dressed as a bear, while surrounded by multicolored confetti and still look cool.

Lead singer, Wayne Coyle definitely gave fans their money's worth with this show. He not only traveled around the arena in a see-through "space-ball" he also gave those in the audience a non-stop 100-minute set chock full of the band's greatest hits.

Quebecois indie group Karkwa found themselves in the limelight after winning the 2010 Polaris Prize and went from underdogs to music darlings all on in one night on Sept. 20th.

The hardcore and 2009 Polaris Prize winners made some noise at a Toronto reference library as part of the city-wide Make Some Noise campaign aimed at getting music lovers to use the center's free music resources. Fans (and a lucky library staff) were treated to a free performance.

Here Montreal-based trio Radio Radio perform at the 2010 Polaris Prize gala on Sept. 20th. The group were the second francophone group to be nominated that yearfor a Polaris Prize and even though they lost they're excited that fans who didn't know who they were merely a year ago are now eager to listen their music. "It's like we brought a pie to a Canadian music industry party and we got a good rep. Now people are asking what the recipe is."

Everyone's favourite Kid Sister kept the momentum going at NXNE as she hit the stage and performed some of her hit songs on June 20 in Toronto.
The Chicago rapper, born Melisa Young, made her professional debut with her hit song "Pro Nails" in 2007.

If you don't know who Ghostkeeper is you might want to look them up. The indie band had crowds moshing throughout their performance at the Paragon Theatre on Oct. 23. They were one of several bands featured at this year's Halifax Pop Explosion festival.

2010 was a big year for the Toronto-based indie-rockers Dinosaur Bones. Not only did they sign an international music deal with Dine Alone Records they also managed to snag a spot performing at NXNE, one of the biggest, baddest music festivals in the world.

Merle Haggard Gives New Year's Resolution the Finger -- Twisted Tales

Who among us doesn't promise to turn over a new leaf on New Year's Day? On Jan. 1, 1958, the son of Flossie Mae and James Francis Haggard made such a promise to himself. At the time, he was in jail.

Fifty-two years later, 73-year-old country music legend Merle Haggard has just been celebrated at the Kennedy Center Honors by President Barack Obama, alongside a Beatle named Paul McCartney and Haggard's new gal pal, "Ope" Winfrey.

Michael Jackson Documentary Postponed Indefinitely

Michael Jackson fans will be relieved to learn that the controversial medical documentary, 'Michael Jackson's Autopsy: What Really Killed Michael Jackson,' has been shelved.

The Discovery television network announced Dec. 31 that it will no longer air the show, which features a reenactment of the superstar's autopsy, citing concerns from Jackson's estate and an upcoming court hearing as their reason for pulling the plug.

Title Tracks Pay Tribute to the Single Ladies but Not Like Beyonce

It's not exactly Beyonce's 'Single Ladies,' but Title Tracks' 'Steady Love' takes a look at single girls who are looking (and looking and looking ...) for love. "It's about all these female friends I had who really inexplicably didn't have anybody and had been single for a long time," Title Tracks singer and guitarist John Davis tells Spinner.

It seems that the odds were stacked against his girl friends, though. "It was so strange but D.C., I guess, is one of these weird towns where there aren't many single men, or desirable single men," the former Q and Not U drummer says of his hometown.

Swedish House Mafia Join Forces With Rap/R&B Godfathers Pharrell and Usher

Steve Angello, key member of the jet-setting Swedish House Mafia DJ and producer crew, speaks happily from his recently acquired Los Angeles home. Living in the epicenter of the world's entertainment industry has certainly shifted his production habits. It may be the Hollywood shine that has been turning him on, but more importantly, he says, he starts each day excited. "Living here helps me work a lot harder, and have more focus. There's a lot of stuff going on in L.A.," he tells Spinner. "And the nightlife sucks, so it's a perfect fit."

Coincidentally, his move to Tinseltown has also brought about the release of the Swedish House Mafia documentary 'Take One,' a bonus in the box set issued in honour of the trio's first official mix CD, 'Until One.' The film -- given an edgy black-and-white treatment by Christian Larsen (editor of Lady Gaga's 'Telephone' music video) -- is a candid 45-minute snapshot of their high-flying lives, filmed over a period of two years.
