News from the Freeform Front

WFMU's Rock N' Soul Ichiban stream has been nominated for best "Greatest Hits in new platform" category over at Radio-Info.com. They're asking you to put in a vote for them by the end of December, which you can do right here!

Coming up on Miniature Minotaurs with Kurt Gottschalk on Wednesday, December 29th from 12-3PM: As a member of the Lounge Lizards and leader of the Jazz Passengers, Roy Nathanson was a moving force in 1970s downtown jazz. He has since ventured into writing poetry and radio plays, while extending the Passengers to have Elvis Costello, Deborah Harry and others sing his songs. His recent Sotto Voce band has furthered his interest in using text and verse in his music. He'll be coming up to WFMU to perform songs old and new.

Version 2.1 of the free WFMU iPhone app has been released. Click here to get it via iTunes (or search for "WFMU" in the app store). The newest version includes live commenting, Twitter & Facebook integration, offline listening, last.fm scrobbling and lots, lots more.

From the Wayback Machine: Re:Mixology was a radio show that aired on WFMU from 2002-2003 that featured a great selection of assorted leftfield, beat-oriented sound manipulators. Special-for-WFMU mixes from the likes of the DFA, Christian Marclay, Wayne Butane, and Felix Kubin were aired, along with actual in-studio live performances in the WFMU studio from Peaches/Gonzales/Feist, Matmos, Evolution Control Committee and more! Dig in with your host DJ Jesuspants to these hourlong jams right here.

Have some time to root around? For years WFMU's been keeping up an extensive Old Bin page full of short reviews our DJs write to keep each other informed of some obscure and maybe overlooked goods that lay in the deepest abcesses of our library walls. Give it a look here and maybe discover something in the repository!

Meet WFMU's Amazing Record Library! Our own Mac produced a short video documentary about the most amazing part of the WFMU Magic Factory, our record library! See WFMU, Where Records Go To Live right here: Youtube Video
