Don C. Selwyn (22 November 1935 – 13 April 2007) was a Maori actor and film director from New Zealand. He was a founding member of the New Zealand Maori Theatre Trust and directed the 2002 film The Merchant of Venice, the first Maori language feature film with English subtitles.

Born of Ngati Kuri and Te Aupouri descent, Selwyn grew up in Taumarunui and began his professional life as a teacher. In 1984 he began a film and television training course for Maori and Pacific Islanders. In 1992 he co-founded He Taonga Films. In 2007 the Arts Foundation of New Zealand selected him for an Icon Award, which was awarded to him privately shortly before he died.

"The Man" is a slang phrase that may refer to the government or to some other authority in a position of power. In addition to this derogatory connotation, it may also serve as a term of respect and praise.

The phrase "the Man is keeping me down" is commonly used to describe oppression. The phrase "stick it to the Man" encourages resistance to authority, and essentially means "fight back" or "resist", either openly or via sabotage.

The earliest recorded use^{[citation needed]} of the term "the Man" in the American sense dates back to a letter written by a young Alexander Hamilton in September 1772, when he was 15. In a letter to his father James Hamilton, published in the Royal Dutch-American Gazette, he described the response of the Dutch governor of St. Croix to a hurricane that raked that island on August 31, 1772. "Our General has issued several very salutary and humane regulations and both in his publick and private measures, has shewn himself the Man." ^{[dubious – discuss]} In the Southern U.S. states, the phrase came to be applied to any man or any group in a position of authority, or to authority in the abstract. From about the 1950s the phrase was also an underworld code word for police, the warden of a prison or other law enforcement or penal authorities.

Roderick David "Rod" Stewart, CBE (born 10 January 1945) is a British singer-songwriter, born and raised in North London, England, and currently residing in Epping. He is of Scottish and English ancestry.

With his distinctive raspy singing voice, Stewart came to prominence in the late 1960s and early 1970s with The Jeff Beck Group and then Faces. He launched his solo career in 1969 with his debut album An Old Raincoat Won't Ever Let You Down (US: The Rod Stewart Album). His work with The Jeff Beck Group and Faces influenced heavy metal genres.

With his career in its fifth decade, Stewart has sold over 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best selling artists of all time. In the UK, he has had six consecutive number one albums, and his tally of 62 hit singles include 31 that reached the top 10, six of which gained the number one position. He has had 16 top ten singles in the U.S, with four of these reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2008, Billboard magazine ranked him the 17th most successful artist on the "The Billboard Hot 100 Top All-Time Artists". He was voted at #33 in Q Magazine's list of the top 100 Greatest Singers of all time, and #59 on Rolling Stone 100 Greatest Singers of all time. As a solo artist, Stewart was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, and was inducted a second time, as a member of Faces, in April 2012.

Billy T James MBE (17 January 1948 - 7 August 1991), born William James Te Wehi Taitoko, was a New Zealand entertainer, comedian, musician and actor. He became a key figure in the development of New Zealand comedy, a household name during his lifetime, and remains an icon to the present day.

James joined the Maori Volcanics Showband in the 1970s and performed around the world. Going solo in Australia and then New Zealand saw him in great demand for his skits and impressions and his cabaret singing. He adopted the stage name Billy T. James because "it was something the Australians could pronounce".

In 1980 he appeared in the variety show Radio Times, the success of which led to his own comedy sketch show in 1981, The Billy T James Show (see section). The same year he was named New Zealand Entertainer of the Year.

In 1985 his cabaret act was recorded live and released on LP as "Billy T Live! at Pips Cabaret, Whangarei". Featuring standup comedy selections and live versions of songs such as Running Bear and When A Child Is Born, this title was out-of-print for more than a decade before being re-released in CD format in 2008.

Selwyn Ward (born June 13, 1977) is an American actor best known for the role of Theodore Jay Jarvis Johnson (aka T.J.) in the Power Rangers universe.

In Power Rangers: Turbo he played the Red Turbo Ranger, his character being the first non-Caucasian Red Ranger in Power Rangers history (thus the first non-Caucasian Power Ranger team leader). He later became the Blue Ranger in Power Rangers: In Space, a role he reprised in Power Rangers Lost Galaxy episodes "To the Tenth Power" and "The Power of Pink". His final appearance was in 2002, in the Power Rangers: Wild Force episode "Forever Red," as the Red Turbo Ranger. Ward made appearances at the 2009 Anime Expo[1] and the 2010 Power Morphicon.[2] At both events he reunited with his former Power Rangers co-stars Roger Velasco, Blake Foster, Patricia Ja Lee (Only Anime Expo) and Tracy Lynn Cruz (Only Power Morphicon).

Selwyn Ward has also made appearances on the television show Moesha and the soap opera Passions. He appeared in the music videos "Don't Leave Me" by Blackstreet and "Man Ain't Supposed to Cry" by Public Announcement. Other movies and commercials include American History X and "Most Wanted".
