A wonderful early entry in Max Fleischer's "Out Of The Inkwell" series featuring Ko Ko the Clown. The combination of cartoon animation and live action is every bit as impressive today as it was when this film was first released 86 years ago.

"Margie" (Eddie Cantor, 1921)
"Margie" (Eddie Cantor, 1921)
MARGIE You may talk about your love affairs, Here's one I'd like to tell to you, All night long they sit upon the stairs, He holds her close and starts to coo: "My little Margie, I'm always thinkin' of you, Margie I'll tell the world I love you Don't forget your promise to me, I have bought the home and ring and everything For Margie--you've been my inspiration Days are never blue... After all is said and done Really there is only one Oh, Margie, Margie it's you!" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More on composer Con Conrad: Con Conrad (b. 1891, New York City, d. 1938, Van Nuys, CA.) was born Conrad K. Dober and came to Tin Pan Alley by way of vaudeville where he had starred since age 16. His first published song was Down In Dear New Orleans in 1912. He was a partner in a publishing firm, The Broadway Music Corporation, with Henry Waterson (later of Berlin, Waterson & Snider) and by 1918 was associated with other publishers, including Shapiro & Bernstein. ***Conrad's 1920 hit Margie was a resounding hit and established Conrad as a major songwriter of the era. Margie was written for Eddie Cantor and the name came from Cantor's five year old daughter. Cantor introduced the song at the Winter Garden and later included it in the 1921 revue, The Midnight Rounders. Conrad wrote a number of other big hits from 1920 through the 30's till his death. Some of his big hits included, Barney Google, 1923 with Billy Rose , Ma! (He's Making Eyes At Me), 1921 and Prisoner of Love* in 1931. *With ...

The Polish-Bolshevik War 1919-1921
The Polish-Bolshevik War 1919-1921
Until 1989, while communists held power in a People's Republic of Poland, the Polish-Soviet War was omitted or minimized in Polish and other Soviet bloc countries' history books, or was presented as foreign intervention during the Russian Civil War to fit in with communist ideology. One of the most easily overlooked, yet momentous short wars of the 20th century was the swift-moving clash between the post-World War I Polish Republic and Russias brand-new Bolshevik regime of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin. Reaching a climax during the summer of 1920, the Russo-Polish War is often regarded as the final episode of the Russian Civil War. In fact, it was much more — at once a reflection of the age-old enmity between two Slavic neighbors and a Marxist crusade bent on varying the torch of revolution into the heart of Europe. The campaign featured a remarkable cast of characters on both sides and mixed ferocious cavalry charges with early blitzkrieg tactics in quest of exceptional objectives.Bolshevik commanders in the Red Army's coming offensive would include Leon Trotsky, Mikhail Tukhachevsky (new commander of the Western Front), the future Soviet ruler Joseph Stalin and the founder of the Cheka (secret police)Feliks Dzierżyński. Germany and France were war weary and were experiencing problems such as unemployment and general economic disruption. Lenin already had political agitators in those countries, but in order for his Revolution to succeed he would need the presence of a military ...

The Who - 1921 - Tanglewood 1970 (HIFI STEREO AUDIO)
The Who - 1921 - Tanglewood 1970 (HIFI STEREO AUDIO)
This amazing video was made possible by www.wolfgangsvault.com and www.longliverock.org. All credit goes to them, I only synced the Audio to the Video sources I found. I will be uploading a DVD version of this somewhere, probably a torrent, but possibly a direct download. Please PM me if you want it, or check back here to see if I have posted any links. I plan to do this sometime soon! I found the video for the first half (which is VERY high quality, and the best looking footage I have found of Tanglewood) up until halfway into Christmas on Tommy on the Wolfgang's Vault facebook page, where it probably is still available. I got the second half of the video, which is very rough VHS quality but yet still the best currently available, from the Tanglewood 1970 HIWATT torrent on www.longliverock.org. Both the video that I got off of Wolfgang's Vault and the second half off of LongLiveRock DID NOT have very good audio - some was a live feed mono soundboard mix, and some was from an audience recording, and it sounded pretty terrible. Then, I found out that Wolfgang's Vault released a remastered version of the audio, which is the official recording, in stereo, and it sounded GREAT! Unfortunately, it did not sync up very well with the video. The video's tape speed fluctuated CONSTANTLY, especially at the end with My Generation and on the second half with the VHS footage, so I ended up making about 500 or 600 edits keeping the video in sync with the audio! I didn't adjust the audio ...

Eton Wall Game (1921)
Eton Wall Game (1921)
Goodness knows what the rules are to the Eton Wall Game, but judging by this Topical Budget newsreel footage it makes for a far better spectator sport than the average golf tournament. Played every St. Andrew's Day, it is said that decades have gone by without a goal ever being scored, possibly because there does not even appear to be a goal. Instead the foolhardy players pounce on top of each other with gusto, forming an unruly scrum against a brick wall. One player known to have taken part in this particular match is a young Eric Blair, who would later become better known under his nom de plume - George Orwell. You can watch 1000 other complete films and TV programmes from the BFI National Archive free of charge at the new BFI Mediatheque - www.bfi.org.uk
