Tripoli Grand Prix 1937 سباق الملاحة
Tripoli Grand Prix 1937 سباق الملاحة
The Tripoli Grand Prix was a motor racing event first held in 1925 on a racing circuit outside Tripoli, the capital of what was then Italian Tripolitania. Motor racing was an extremely popular sport in Italy and the colony was seeking methods to raise capital and promote tourism -- tourists who, it was hoped, would then decide to settle in Tripolitania. But despite the support of the colony's extremely enthusiastic governor, Emilio de Bono, and some initial success, the events failed financially. Only personal intervention by de Bono kept the 1929 event from being cancelled, and 1930 was marred by a spartan field, little public interest, and the death of Gastone Brilli-Peri in an accident[1]. Initial enthusiasm and sponsorship had retreated, the fallout from Brilli-Peri's accident meant a 1931 running was impossible, and the dream of a successful Tripoli Grand Prix might have ended there and then. But the president of Tripoli's auto club, Edigio Sforzini, was resilient. He decided to organize another Grand Prix, this time on a purpose built European style racing circuit. Sufficient capital was raised from the Italian government's funding of a fair promoting the colony so as to make the venture possible, and upon the circuit's completion the Grand Prix was scheduled for the spring of 1933.[1] This new Mellaha Lake track was a 13.140 kilometer (8.165 mi) long affair situated in a salt basin between Tripoli, Suq al Jum'ah (also known as Suk el Giuma or Sugh el Giumaa (سوق ...

Hindenburg Explodes! Scores Dead - Special Release 1937/05/10
"Lakehurst, NJ: Thirty-five persons die and scores of others are injured as the mighty dirigible explodes three hundred feet over the landing field at the end of her first voyage of the season from Europe. A terrific burst of flame engulfs the stern of the ship and spreads with the rapidity of lightning to the bow. The inferno of blazing hydrogen gas cremates all living beings in its path, as the twisted skeleton of the balloon settles quickly to the ground. Rescue crews brave death to save sixty-three persons, some of them horribly burned." scenes of Hindenburg burning with narration.

22.6.1937 James J. Braddock vs Joe Louis
22.6.1937 James J. Braddock vs Joe Louis
James J. Braddock won the world heavyweight championship from lethal puncher Max Baer in 1935. The match was described as one of the biggest upsets in ring history. Jim Braddock was supposed to defend the heavyweight title against the former champion Max Schmeling in September 1936 but was offered almost 300.000 dollars if he defended it against 'the Brown Bomber' Joe Louis instead. So Jim Braddock met Joe Louis in the ring on June the 22nd 1937, for the heavyweight title. In the first minute of round 1 they started to exchange and Braddock managed to get a right uppercut in Louis' chin and knocked him down briefly but Louis went on to dominate the rest of the bout all the way to the eighth round where Louis' left to the body and a hard right to the chin knocked Braddock down heavily. The referee counted him out at 1:10 of the eighth round while he was lying on the canvas lifelessly. Joe Louis was the only person who managed to knock him out. He had been knocked down only twice before in his career and both times he got up to win. Joe Gould wanted to stop the bout in the rest period between the 7th and the 8th round since Braddock was bleeding severely and his face was swollen badly. But Jimmy showed a heart of a champion and stood up once more to fight for his belt. Braddock later said after the fight: "When he hit me with that left-right combination I could've stayed down on the canvas for three weeks". Here you can see round 1 (Louis down), a part of round 2 and the ...

Pluto- Bone Trouble (1937)
As it hasn't been uploaded, I'm uploading this wonderful cartoon, the first one of the Pluto's serie. Pluto has no bone, so he decides to steal one from his neighbour Spike... but when he is discovered, he escapes in a deserted carnival. This is a great piece of animation, and the sequence in the hall of mirrors is simply delicious! (Thanks to Overhill who found this cartoon for me ;))
