Today I met Abdumalik Boboyev, independent journalist and correspondent of Voice of America, who is being incriminated the following charges under Uzbek Criminal Code: slander, insult, illegal leaving abroad and illegal entrance to the Republic of Uzbekistan as well as Preparation and dissemination of information, threatening the public safety and order.

He had a sincere smile on his face as if it wasn’t not him suffering from the stupidity of the Uzbek Justice, the blindness of the Uzbek Themis. Though he was optimistic about his following court hearings, somewhere inside he realized that it was not going to be as good for him as he wish.

The reason of my pessimism lies in the deal that Abdumalik was offered by the prosecutor: he’ll be sentenced and amnestied right away if he makes a confession [and apologize] for what he had [not] done. As a man of honor he refused it and preferred staying on the way of truth.
