Partnerships

Transitions Online (TOL) and neweurasia have teamed up to push forward the vast potential of blogging to act as a cost-efficient, powerful instrument of free speech, free press, advocacy, and self-expression in Central Asia, a region whose media situation is in dire need of a breath of fresh air.  The partnership has been built upon our particular strengths:

- Since its start in 2005, neweurasia has become a leading New Media/Citizen Media network in Central Asia.  Several of the region’s premier bloggers began their careers as trainees or “bridge-bloggers” of neweurasia, and the network continues to organise seminars and workshops at the grassroots level.

- TOL has published and promoted local voices from the former Soviet Union for the past decade.  The organisation has helped pave the way for the use of the internet in reporting news that matters most to post-Soviet countries; it also trains a rising generation of journalists from the region.

Meanwhile, neweurasia also works closely with EurasiaNet, a leading news site for the countries of the Caucasus and Central Asia, as well as an array of independent bloggers in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and from around the world.  Contributors have come from as far and wide as New York City, Philadelphia, Singapore, Ulan Bator, and of course, locations throughout Europe, Central Asia, and the Caucasus.

neweurasia is grateful for the generous support of the Humanistisch Instituut voor Ontwikkelingssmenwerking (Hivos), a non-governmental organisation based in the Netherlands that is guided by humanist values.  Hivos’ mission is to actively promote a free, fair, and sustainable world where citizens of both sexes and all races and creeds have equal access to resources, opportunities, markets, and political processes.
