By COLIN NG and JOHN PHILLIPS SINGAPORE—Asian stock markets were higher Thursday after Wall Street's surge Wednesday, with improved risk appetite lifting cyclical plays such as coal, metal and mining stocks in Sydney and China. Japan's Nikkei Stock Average was up 1.8%, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 was up 2.1%, and South Korea's Kospi Composite rose 0.9%. Hong Kong's Hang Sang Index was up 0.9%.
