Julian Burton Burns Trust gets big boost from SA Government

THE Julian Burton Burns Trust has received a $600,000 pledge from the State Government which it is hoping will be matched by an unnamed private business.

Premier Mike Rann made the commitment this morning, with the money to be spread over four years.

It will be used for burns education and prevention programs such as the BurnSafe School Program and other state-wide community education campaigns.

A former Sturt footballer, Burton established his charity in 2003 - a year after suffering third-degree burns in the Bali bombings.

He said burn injuries were in the top three causes of accidental death in preschoolers.

"The Julian Burton Burns Trust is Australia's leading community organisation committed to the prevention, care and research into burn injuries," Mr Rann said.

  • Bullied and Lied to of country sa - always short changed by Labor Posted at 5:57 PM September 23, 2010

Mr Holloway says there is no proof those who suicided had anything to do with their treatment by work cover, so effectively this government requires those considering taking their lives to write down they are doing it because of their treatment by work cover. Even then I am sure the Labor party would twist it around so as not to shiulder any blame. I am amazed some ministers can sleep easy at night. I guess their Super rise helps.

The government dont really care about suicide. Even though after reading Hansard 15th/16th Sept 2010 when this was discussed, Holloway said it was terrible about the suicides, yet even after a plea from our state coroner to have a "suicide toll" the government bury their head in the sand and just tell us about the road toll which is NOTHING in comparison. How unusual the Premier announcing funding, I guess Mr Hill didnt mind being trumped - all labor ministers are used to our premier stealing the good news stories...its a shame his adviser army dont realise his career is all over red rover.

  • Jennifer Edgemore of Mum of an injured worker Posted at 3:10 PM September 21, 2010

Premier Rann read Hansard 15th Sept '10, Robert Brokenshire MLC called on Minister Holloway to direct WorkCover Corporation to sponsor Work Injured Resource Connection with the small amount of $30,000 per annum. Given the number of injured workers who have ended their life via suicide over the last 5yrs {14 suicide deaths}, $30,000 would be money well spent.
