“Here’s a photo of our tacky office tree, one of our receptionists just purchased this (that’s right it is not left over from the 80’s).”

Entry submitted by “Dani” 11/12/2008

“At work I have been the ringleader in my team decorations for our annual team Christmas decoration competition. Photos just don’t do it justice. We were going for tinsel land…. But it appears to have turned into mardi gras Christmas in our corner.”

“This is our pod at work. The decorations just got bigger and bigger… There was food and a picnic too at one stage!”

Entry submitted by “Josh” 12/12/2008

“I think we possibly have the dodgiest Christmas decoration around. We don’t have time to buy a crap load of decorations and hang them from every available surface, but we did want to get into the Christmas cheer. We decided the best way to do this was to put our Coke addiction (the drink not the drug) to good use so over the last couple of weeks we have built our own Christmas tree out of Coke cans. I think its eye catching.”

Entry submitted by “Adam” 12/12/2008

“This year we draped as much tinsel as we had, and used the spare desk to create our masterpiece; a re-appropriated coatrack transformed into a Christmas tree with a decidedly Aussie beach theme; the tree itself is a palm (complete with coconut baubles), and at the base are thongs, pebbles and shells, empty bottles of beer, a beach ball, a Speedo-wearing turtle, and more… No prawns though!!”

Entry submitted by “Aarah” 12/12/2008

“I was very excited to see this competition as I had alot of fun putting up the decorations this year especially around an unsuspecting work colleagues cubicle who is a very quiet and shy person.  It ended up looking like a shrine.”

image

Entry submitted by “Grace” 15/12/2008

“Here’s a pic of this year’s decorations in our office. We used to have an annual Christmas decoration competition with each floor in our building competing for a cash prize - for some reason it has been scrapped this year, and instead we all got given one of these Christmas baubles (complete with tacky company logo printed on them). What to do with them? no-one knew what to do with them until someone decided to use a paper clip to stick to the ceiling above their desk, a few others then kindly donated theirs to create this wonderful festive creation.”

Entry sumbitted by “Kat” 15/12/2008

“I decided to indulge my tinsel fetish in the office this year, to the horror of our Grinch boss. The only words that come out of his mouth in December are “Bah! Humbug!” but he’s up against a bunch of glitter addicted chicks so he’s outnumbered. The proof is attached. I’m still not satisfied though, after another trip to Christmas Kingdom there will be more!”

Entry submitted by “Danielle” 15/12/2008

“Our office can get quite competitive when it comes to the annual Xmas decorating but we believe that our Unit this year won hands down. The theme: We’re Dreaming of a Green Xmas. Although it’s not your typical Xmas-styled decorating, it has definitely been a pleasure sitting among the forest in our office. (We were supposed to look like hippies but the guys just ended up looking like hobos!)”

Entry submitted by “Hano” 16/12/2008

“One bright and sunny Sunday afternoon I got cracking on the last Griswalds Family Christmas idea for our junior in the office. This is what happened. One person with a lot of time on hands.. 5-7 hours $200, 1000 Christmas candles 150m of tinsel (there is more than shown around the back) 10 rolls of Christmas paper 5 rolls of sticky tape. One Santa hat, not surprising he was not amused… to say the least”

Entry submitted by “Helen 17/12/2008

“This is what happens when you let the IT Department decorate their office. We had plenty of spare CDs and other shiny things around the office, so thought we’d make an unique office display.”

image

image

Entry submitted by “Sue” 17/12/2008

“After years of repression by the now dismantled Xmas Decoration Committee, this year we just decided to stick up every decoration we have - resulting in tinsel vomit. We have a pretty decent tree and even a rainbow fish light”

Entry submitted by “LifeStyle Channel” 17/12/2008

“Christmas at the LifeStyle Channel is not complete without a little Christmas craft- decorating challenge”

Entry submitted by “Marisa” 17/12/2008

“We had no Christmas decorations in our lab at all, so the lab manager kindly bought a Christmas tree but no decorations. My friend and I decided to get creative with anything we could find at work and here is the result….our nerdy Christmas tree with snow and “presents” under the tree.”

image

Entry submitted by “Matt” 17/12/2008

“On the phone while a work mate decorated myself with lovely pink tinsel.. who created PINK tinsel?”

image

Entry submitted by “Sharon” 17/12/2008

“There’s a tree in there somewhere!”

Entry submitted by “Melissa” 17/12/2008

Entry submitted by “Allan” 17/12/2008

“Join the Presents and Toys under the Christmas tree. So far our Giving Tree has raised over $250.00.”

image

Entry submitted by “Michelle” 17/12/2008

“We seemed to have an excessive amount of brown paper in the office so I decided to turn a bunch of our (empty) filing cabinets into a rather large present.”

image

Entry submitted by “Natalie” 17/12/2008

“A Christmas Sarah Palin makes a special cameo appearance in this bushy tinsel display in an ode to the desk’s occupant who dressed as her for Halloween along with a simple cardboard tube covered in al-foil representing the Festivus Pole”

I think the palm tree idea is a fantastic and original one, well done Adam!!

Wow Adam, how great, a true Aussie christmas tree, cold climate celebrators would be full of envy.  I vote yours as being the best (not the worse)....

Josh,
You’re obviously not an Aussie are you.
Those coke bottles should be beer....

I like the baubles… they just ring out ‘my boss is a scrooge’

whats more concerning than the decorations in picture 4 would be that worker’s desk. I mean, a wall of myspace photos, bottles and dishes, girlie magazines scattered around, does this person do any work?!! Must be one of those gen-Y employees..

Ohhh I’m sick of this Gen-Y Gen-X (and apparently now there’s a Gen-Z) crap.
People are all different. I’m Gen-Y n there’s plenty of Gen-X people in Accounts with whacky photos and mags and the christmas decorations look like Santa’s come sliding in on his sleigh and it’s blown up in their section, dispersing metres upon metres of tinsel.

P.s. How do photos of friends mean they aren’t doing work? Cheers the drab place up if you ask me.

what’s your point? im gen-Y too. I just think most of my peers are idiots; they are self-centred, extroverted, and give myself and other hard-working, sensible people a bad name. Workplaces are for work, not for daydreaming and reminiscing.

The complete lack of work material on the person’s desk is what led me to the assumption, not photos. Seems you didnt read my post correctly, can’t comprehend, or a combination of both.

Oh yeah, the decorations are nice & pretty.

I certainly did read your post:
“I mean, a wall of myspace photos,...does this person do any work?!!”

I agree, I’m a hard working Gen-Y’er too but lighten up. You’d be the most cold, hard, boring person to work with. Storming around the place with “work, work, work” on your mind.

Maybe someone hasn’t said it to you yet - Merry Christmas. Take a chill pill Grinch, you can work and laugh at the same time, believe it or not.

Who cares if they aren’t doing work? At least they’re living a fun and less boring life. Get over yourself.

Looks like a call centre, there is an amp, a phone and a pc .... that pretty much all the work materials they would need

I love the “Green Christmas!”!! It’s so different and I’m sure it must have taken them hours!

Great to see people remembering the environment at christmas too :D

I just saw my desk in the bottom picture that was my 18th birthday present, whilst we are on the topic of birthdays mine is on the day that the winner is announced (18th Dec) a win on that day would be another good present wink

the boss is currently away - he is due back on Monday…

I’m heading out now during my lunch break to get christmas paper, so I can decorate his desk!

fabulous fabulous idea!

nothing says ‘merry christmas boss, we worked really hard during your absence’ like pointless decorations!

Talk about conformity.  Why do all the office spaces look almost identical?  The Christmas decorations just add to the very very depressing realisation that we all (or most of us) get to be penned up inside a cubicle for 8 hours 5 days a week and all we can do to make this very drab existance better is drape disgusting plastic bloody tinsel everywhere which is destroying the environment.

BAH HUMBUG!

Do something worthwhile for Christmas and volunteer at St Vinnies or a soup kitchen.

Well you are a happy chappy arent you NOT, cheer up, they chose the job that is where they choose to be, if they dont want it, they can change it, and if they want to put up tinsel and make it better LET THEM :( have you ever thought that this is what makes them feel good, they dont have to serve soup of volunteer at st vinnies, you need to get a life :( MERRY XMAS Grinch angry

I’m sitting here at my desk and we have no Christmas fancy… against OH&S;so I’m told. I WANT MY SHINIES!

The pity of Grace’s office and the absolute over the top decoration of Hano’s. I can’t imagine that junior gets much work done with xmas paper over his screens.

well i am shocked after reading all of the bits and pieces, what is wrong with everyone, we have one life, yes we work, but i agree we can laugh too, life is way too short guys.... it is amazing what a smile and a laugh can do for someone in the morning, i can prove that, by the way i love the gift wrapped desk, LOVE IT...... and remember it costs nothing to put a smile on someones face......  today it is a precious thing....  smile
