A religious ritual for agnostics/aetheists

Watch the whole thing with headphones on and the volume as loud as you can stand. Two minutes in, your jaw will drop. The whole thing is beautiful, right to the very end. At least this aetheist got his god-spot all tingly.

Happy Newtonmas everyone…

That was…

It was

…as they used to say back in my day.

Thanks again for throwing yourself so whole-heartedly at a difficult brief in such a short time. We were all really blown away by the work this morning, and Ian from Vodafone was very pleased with the diversity and depth of the exploration you’d made around the theme of “Future Tribes”.

Ian and the vodafone team are looking forward to seeing the finished project website early next year, so please make sure you’ve got your images and text for David and James before you take a well-deserved break.

Finally, I just want to say how much I’ve enjoyed working with you all the last four weeks, and hopefully see you next year.

Alison: The Flow of the BinMen

>Alison identified her group as being her local bin men and observed and worked with them to understand the principles and superpowers of this tribe.

>Some interventions by Alison include introducing “future change” or pre-enactment methods to their work routine to help prepare them for when their job routine changes -experiments act as a mirror on their actions. See “vocation vacation” -a service that offers a day in your dream job.

>Other focuses include accentuating and preserving the flow and self-choreography of the bin men and their reliance upon each other to get the job done by working in sync.

Dearbhaile: The awkwardness of waiting-update

>Dearbhaile is designing the conditions for a number of audio spaces you may choose from when put on hold by a call centre controller - the acoustic architecture that will change the way people communicate with each other.

>How does the audio scenario affect the interaction when you enter the hold space?-is their a particular soundscape upon your entrance - as found when entering a lift eg. a bing sound, a friendly voice etc

>How would the mentality of different organisatons affect the different options offered when on hold? Would Virgin offer singles rooms? Would Haagen Dazs offer audiospaces where you could hear ice cream melting on someone’s tongue?

Louise O’Connor: flocking and self-choreography

-Louise’s focus lies in the way we self organize in groups without verbal communication & finding ways to instigate this flocking behaviour.
-Some flocks can be selfish: locusts try to eat each other in the swarm. Fish want to get to the centre for protection.
-What opportunities are there to design sinister synchronicity? Design a training device that force everyone to carry out musical choreography when in a group. Eg in a bus line
-How can you create an intervention that will affect physical experience for the passer by eg. One person looks up, will others join? Radiohead music video
-Military synchronicity & precision eg. Korean/Russian/Chinese army processions
-How can you hijack flocks for your own end?
- Sign up to receive instructions at any time via text creating synchronicity relationship with others who have signed up: Surrender Control: Tim Etchells from Forced Entertainment performance theatre artist group
