The Ugly World Tour 201115 Nov 2010
Beyond doubt, CHILDREN OF BODOM belong to the hardest working live-acts worldwide! Not only the energetic live-shows of the extraordinaire Guitarist Alexi Laiho and his bandmates Roope Latvala, Jaska Raatikainen, Janne Viljami „Warman“ Wirman, Henkka „T. Blacksmith“ Seppälä provide a hype, but also the unbelievable tour plan.

The band spent virtually their entire youth in the tour bus. After the end of the 2008 European tour with Slipknot and Machine Head, C.O.B. jumped by one nightliner into the next.

With the release of their very successful album „Blooddrunk“ CHILDREN OF BODOM reached the highest Chart positions in band-history! As with their previous albums „Blooddrunk“ achieved #1 on the Finnish album-charts and Top 10 positions in almost all European countries! “Blooddrunk” also reached a Top 25 position on US-Billboard-Charts the first time and Top 10 in Japan! The virus called “CHILDREN OF BODOM” makes no borders!

COB films new music video "Was It Worth It?"03 Nov 2010
CHILDREN OF BODOM TEAMS UP WITH WORLD’s TOP SKATEBOARDERS TO FILM NEW MUSIC VIDEO

NEW SONG “WAS IT WORTH IT?” TO APPEAR ON AWARD-WINNING FINNISH BAND’s HIGHLY ANTICIPATED NEW ALBUM

CHILDREN OF BODOM, the esteemed Finnish Heavy Metal band that features frontman and modern day guitar hero Alexi Laiho just wrapped shooting on a high energy music video for the brand new song “Was it Worth It?”. In the video, COB joined forces with two-time X Games gold medalist and two-time Thrasher Magazine “Skater of the Year” Chris Cole as well as noted pro skaters Jamie Thomas and Tom Asta (the current #1 Amateur skateboarder in the world). “Was it Worth It?” will appear on CHILDREN OF BODOM’s as-yet-untitled seventh studio album, which is slated for a spring, 2011 release via Universal Music.

Filmed on location at central Pennsylvania’s residential Action Sports compound Camp Woodward and directed by Dale Resteghini for Raging Nation Films (Pink Floyd, Santana, Mötley Crüe), the “Was it Worth It?” video was shot guerrilla style, sans treatment; honing in directly on CHILDREN OF BODOM’s high-spirited fire and the skaters’ eye-opening execution. Check out in-action stills from the video shoot now at this location.

"The video shoot was an awesome party; a big concoction of super Heavy Metal and the most awesome and craziest skaters in the world,” said BODOM’s Laiho. “High octane drinks and lots of fun! Chris Cole’s ollies over me while I'm rocking my guitar solo, that's fuckin’ Rock ‘n’ Roll right there! I never had this much fun during a video shoot. Thanks to the director and everyone involved."

"I've been a Bodom fan for a very long time, and never thought something like this would ever happen. It's a dream come true for me,” commented Chris Cole. “For the past three years Alexi and I have been saying to each other how we wanted to film this one scene that finally happened in this video. I had a blast and can't wait for this video to air!"

COB enters studio; begins work on new album23 Aug 2010
PRESS RELEASE

CRITICALLY LAUDED FINNISH METAL BAND LOOKS TO CREATE “THE PERFECT STORM” WITH NEW RECORD

CHILDREN OF BODOM, the esteemed Finnish Heavy Metal band that features frontman and modern day guitar hero Alexi Laiho has entered the studio to begin work on its as-yet-untitled seventh studio album. COB has enlisted famed rock producer Matt Hyde (Slayer, Monster Magnet) to oversee the new recording and will remain in the studio through late September.

“We’re very excited to let everyone hear what we’re creating with this new record,” said the band in a statement. “Everything you love about CHILDREN OF BODOM has been magnified tenfold and we’re pushing ourselves harder than ever before. Expect nothing less than “the perfect storm!”

CHILDREN OF BODOM's enthralling mix of modern heavy metal, melodic hooks and the guitar acrobatics of Laiho have solidified the critically acclaimed band as one of the most revered hard rock acts in the world and one of the leading voices of metal’s new generation. The group’s 2008 studio album Blooddrunk skyrocketed to #22 on Billboard’s Top 200, scored the quintet its third consecutive #1 debut in its native Finland and saw Laiho named “Best Metal Guitarist” by the readers of Guitar World, besting well known players such as Kirk Hammett of Metallica and Alex Skolnick of Testament to win the coveted award. CHILDREN OF BODOM has been called "technically dazzling" by the New York Times and “One of the most talented metal bands of our time” by contemporary media conglomerate VICE.

Immediately upon the completion of the new album, CHILDREN OF BODOM will join Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society for a two month North American tour. Dubbed the “Black Label Berzerkus,” and described as “rock n’ roll nights of excess and unique madness,” the massive trek will kick off on September 21st at Roseland in Portland, OR and make stops across the whole of the U.S. and Canada. Alexi and Zakk will appear side-by-side on the cover of Guitar World’s November, 2010 issue – on newsstands September 21 (see cover sneak peek HERE).

In additional COB news, the band has contributed the song “If You Want Peace...Prepare for War” to the upcoming music video game Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. To “maximize players’ shredability,” Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock “delivers the next evolution in finger-fretting with an all-new, show-stopping guitar controller that was inspired and born from the game’s unique art style and specifically made for shredding.” CHILDREN OF BODOM will appear on the game alongside fellow heavyweights KISS, Metallica & Ozzy Osbourne, Def Leppard, Foo Fighters and more.

In addition to Laiho, CHILDREN OF BODOM features Roope Latvala (guitar), Janne Warman (keyboard), Henkka Seppälä (bass) and Jaska Raatikainen (drums).

Summer update from Henkka15 Jun 2010
"So yesterday we recorded some demos for the new stuff.
Jaska's drums earlier, Alexi and me did our share yesterday.
Roope will be doing today.

It's exciting!

Couple of more months and we will start recording for real. Can't really wait how the new shit sounds when it's actually all done. While recording we will hit the festivals, which is cool. We never left the studio like this, in the middle of recording process, so let's see how it affects, or if it affects at all.

So Sziget is the first one, Budapest is so nice city, and the weather
is always great that time of the year!

Ankkarock is the last for us then. Hello Korso, my name is Torso!"

Henkka

Update from Henkka09 Mar 2010
"It is great to have a new rehearsal space. We can rehearse whenever and as long as we want. And this is a new thing for us as a band. So making new songs is now really different than before.

It's been really exciting, once again, to gather at the rehearsal space and start jamming the new ideas Alexi has in mind for. I'm really excited now, and looking forward everyday to get there again to see what's new this time.

Soon we will jam some old songs too, since we have these 3 shows in Finland next month. It s been quite a long time since last live show, so that is a fresh thing to do also, the small Fenno-tour. And we've never played in Sotkamo area!!!

We will enter the studio in the middle of next summer. And then we will take our time to track the stuff, then mix it and master it. Then the labels need their time to prepare the release... so unfortunately the release won't be this year, that's for sure. We will let you know as soon as we know the date.

When the tracking is done, the rest of the summertime we will spend at some summer festivals in Europe. Check out our live section for those.

And, we will put some footage, diary thingies, from the studio, that's for sure!"

Later,

Henkka

Kolme Suomen vetoa keväälle!09 Dec 2009
Children Of Bodom ended their 1,5 year Blooddrunk world tour in Moscow in October, and is now enjoying some well-earned time off. The band will start working on their seventh studio outing early next year, and the first months of 2010 will be spent in the rehearsal lair putting the new song material together.

The studio is booked for early summer, but before that the band will treat their home crowd with three shows on Finnish soil.

Puolitoistavuotisen Blooddrunk-levyä seuranneen maailmankiertueensa Moskovaan lokakuussa päättänyt Children Of Bodom on nyt ansaitulla tauolla lataamassa akkujaan.

Blooddrunk World Tour done27 Oct 2009
"We started in May 2008, when the album came out. With Megadeth in USA.
Summer arrived and we escaped to Australia's and New Zealand's winter. Then a longer flight to Japan, back to warmth and the perfect noodlesoups. We also did some festivals in Europe including Wacken and Download.

Back to USA as headliner, after which we hit arenas with Slipknot and Machine head in Europe. Here and there a couple headliners in between. Christmas home and new years too. Beginning of the year was time for the longawaited headlining in Europe. Managed to get Cannibal Corpse and Diablo with us.

Then experienced a couple of weeks of spring time in Finland, and off we go, with Lamb Of God, North America. Somebody falls from his bunk and we go home. Summertime, everything healed, and we hit some festivals, but also had the chance to enjoy the Finnish summer. Summer ends and we fly to spring of Buenos Aires, from where we start the last thing of this cycle. Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Mexico, USA, Canada, Hawaii, Japan, Hongkong, Beijing, Taipei and finally Moscow.

We toured with many bands, many crew. Met a lot of nice people, weird people, funny people. Tasted weird foods, emptied minibars, swam in the ocean. Pounded Brazilian Churrascaria beef, had tons of nigiris in Tokyo, frenchfries animalstyle in Cali and poutine in Canada. We enjoyed the tropical heat, fruits and surf in Honolulu, also the hospitality of locals in the Irish Bar, and the dayafter around the island, ending in Gyu-Kaku.

Played many cities where we never headlined before, including Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, Clifton Parks, Beijing, Taipei, Hongkong, Honolulu, Monterrey, Buenos Aires...

Learned to say hello in Chinese and Cantonese, not to forget the dirty phrases in Japanese in Rock-Rock.

We wanna thank all the fans we had the honour to play with!

And the really nice fans who we were able to meet!

Thanks goes to all the bands we toured with, all the cool crew we met and worked with, especially our own crew and our management. All the locals who made shows happen, all the locals who helped us out, whether it was ordering a pizza or showing me the Tiananmen square.

We're done now for a while. Concentrating on writing.

But after all's done, we will do the same again!!!!"

Summer blog from Henkka30 Jun 2009
"In the beginning of the summer we went to Janne's small studio and recorded a couple of new cover songs for the forthcoming cover album. The songs turned out really good. Especially the slower song, that seemed to be a little hard to arrange.

Then we kept on doing the festivals, as planned. Provinssirock, was good, even though we played soooo late. "I hate these finnish mosquitos!", as our german friend used to say.

Then we went to hot Spain. Zaragoza city is beautiful, but it was very windy. Again we played very late, and the wind just kept getting stronger. We had to really choose our steps carefully on stage, in order not be blown down by that wind. It was surreal. But it was good to be in Spain again, after a couple of years break.

Today we came back from Belgium. Graspop is known to be one of the best metal festivals in the world, and again it truly was nice. Sunday was sort a reunion feeling, when Lamb Of God and God Forbid was playing too. And Suicidal. Saturday we managed to get to the festival in time to see Journey. We played on sunday, and the tent was really hot. But the crowd was amazing. Best Graspop show ever for us.

On friday we played Sweden, Gothenburg. Municipal Waste guys were hanging out, as did some of the In Flames guys too. It was good to have beers with friends from past tours. Show was our best show ever played in Sweden, in my opinion. And I fell in love with summer- Gothenburg."

Post LOG tour / Summer Fests Update03 Jun 2009
"New York show was a disaster. Something that we have been always afraid of. And during the last two weeks of the No Fear -tour we were really afraid during every show, we had no idea if Alexi's ribs and shoulder would make it through the set.

Last hit in Hellhounds on my Trail and I saw a guitar flying into the Jaska's drum riser. Alexi was gone. I knew that now it was too much, and then back of the stage I saw him, and crew said he can't go on. Its horrible feeling, when there's a couple of thousand fans in New York city waiting for next song. There was nothing we could do though... It sucks.

Two weeks of rest and we rehearsed again, and it seemed better. The shoulder is fully healed, but a broken rib is still hurting when singing. First show since "NYC disaster" was to be in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, Rock Hard -festival. Before the show we just had to hope for the best, that everything would go ok. During the show I saw that he was gonna make it, even though still not able to move normally, but the look in Alexi's face was totally different than during the last days of the tour. We pulled it off, and German crowd was good, as it always is in Rock Hard. Thanks everybody who was there! Next week, we go to Pohjanmaa, Seinäjoki where Provinssirock is held. Looking forward, crazy drunken Finns and almost nightless nights."

COB forced to drop off No Fear Energy tour11 May 2009
Official press release May 11th 2009

FINLAND’s CHILDREN OF BODOM FORCED TO END NORTH AMERICAN TOUR AS A RESULT OF INJURIES TO GUITARIST / FRONT MAN ALEXI LAIHO

Award-winning Finnish heavy metal band CHILDREN OF BODOM was forced to cancel its remaining live dates as part of the “No Fear Energy Tour” with Lamb of God due to injuries sustained by guitarist and front man Alexi Laiho. Laiho, 30, broke his shoulder two weeks ago when he was ejected from his tour bus bunk after the vehicle took a sharp turn. Laiho and CHILDREN OF BODOM are touring North America in support of the band’s critically acclaimed album Blooddrunk. The axe slinger was recently named as the world’s "Best Metal Guitarist" in the 15th annual Guitar World reader’s poll.

Against recommendation, Laiho had decided to “bite the bullet” and remain on tour, wearing the arm in a sling to restrict movement at all times when he was not on stage. But after performing ten live dates with both the broken shoulder and internal bleeding, the toll became too much for the guitar hero to endure and CHILDREN OF BODOM made the decision to cut its current tour short, placing Laiho’s long-term health as its first priority.

“After the New York show (on May 9) I knew it was going to be over,” commented Laiho in an official statement. "During the 3rd song I started feeling like someone was stabbing me in my lungs, my heart and my ribs. That was the kind of pain that neither stubbornness, painkillers, nor alcohol could alleviate. I wanted to try to keep going but after seeing a second doctor in Philadelphia, I was basically told that I could fuck myself up for life if I don’t stop playing. Against all recommendation, I have played and sang for the last 10 days in violent pain which has only made my condition worsen. So, I decided to listen to everyone around me, who were telling me the best thing to do would be to go home and get some proper rest and give my shoulder some time to heal.

"This was a hard decision for me and I feel bad about it,” he continued. “But it is the right thing to do if I want to keep making music. I apologize to our great fans for not being there for the remaining shows and I want to thank all the guys from the other bands; Lamb of God, As I Lay Dying, God Forbid and Municipal Waste for backing me up on this. Most of all I want to thank our fans for still being there, showing support, and continuing to rock out with me! I promise I will be back and I hope you all will too! Horns up!”

After a few weeks rest, Children Of Bodom will start their European summer festival run on May 30th from Rock Hard Festival 2009 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. All summer festival dates will go down as planned and remain unaffected by Alexi's injury!

Alexi's statement regarding his injury05 May 2009
"Four nights ago I fell out of my bunk in the tour bus and came down pretty damn hard as the driver was taking a sharp turn. It turns out I have a broken shoulder as well as internal bleeding.

I am going through a great deal of pain every second that I am awake. However, I can still play the guitar and I will give everything I have to try to finish this tour and play every remaining show!

I would just like to apologize in advance for not being able to move around or sing with my full power at all times and I hope the COB fans understand. What can I say? I’m jinxed! End of story. See you out there."

-Alexi

Children Of Bodom is heading towards the last dates of their highly succesful European tour with Cannibal Corpse and Diablo. The band will play tonight in Oslo followed up by a show in Stockholm (tickets still available through Skrikhult).

Finally, the band returns back home and takes over the stage of the Old Icehall in their hometown Helsinki (seated tickets left in Lippupalvelu) before finishing the tour in Seinäjoki's Rytmikorjaamo club (new batch of tickets to the previously sold out show were released today in Tiketti!).

Bassist Henkka Seppälä comments on the tour so far:

"I was 12 years old, me and my buddy where in the toilet area in my school , with walkmans when I heard a piece of the most brutal stuff ever, Eaten Back to Life, that my brother had bought. It changed my life quite a bit. Now every third night I hear Skull full of Maggots, live which is amazing and very nostalgic of course... The whole set is very tight and intense. But even better thing is that the guys are super nice. All of the band, and it s very easy to hang out with them. Its such a privilege to tour with Cannibal, and still feels weird to see this legendary act play before us... I admit it. And I m sure many people think it s wrong. I do hope that Cannibal fans will continue showing up anyway to see the shows.

Diablo, we wanted to have them on our tour many times, and finally it happened. I really like their stuff, favorites, Icaros and Read my Scars.. Seems all the 3 bands get along very well. And everybody's hanging out, which is not so often happening on tours. Thats so cool, and we feel extremely comfortable with this package.
We haven t headlined Europe since Are You Dead Yet -tour, and its been too long. Usually we ve played also Spain, and especially Barcelona has been always awesome for us. This tour won't go to Spain, and I think its sad, but I do hope we get to play in Spain in summer later on!!

I think Milan was the best so far. Great venue and great crowd. Amsterdam was pretty damn good too. Jaska fell three times from his bunk the other night and has his face all bruised. Hahaa, its gonna be painful soon when he sweats in the wounds...I , myself, was told that I fell on random people at Volbeat show in Budapest. Damn Hungarian beers.
Roope was almost left out of the UK when his passport wasnt found when we crossed the border in the middle of the night. But he somehow found it from his luggage after some thorough search, which is a miracle, since he wasnt exactly sober."

Henkka

Henkka's update from the UK08 Dec 2008
"I think Munich was the best German show for us. It was very nice surprise for us. They day before we played in Vienna, and somehow that city has always been very dear to us. I will never forget the the Planet Music shows back in the day. One Man Man Army dudes invaded our bus in Stuttgart. They played the same city with Unleashed.

It was time to cross the channel. The Cliffs of Dover welcomed us to the rainy island. Weird is that its actually been much sunnier in UK than in Central Europe on this tour.

London was lots of drinking. Cardiff kicked some serious ass. The crowd really surprised us, and now it would be great to come over for headliner.

Yesterday we enjoyed a day off in Birmingham. I managed to get up quite early, totally hungover from the Cardiff tequilas. The game wasn't sold out so we got tickets to see Birmingham-Watford. What could be better cure for hangover than good company, beer and football."

Henkka

Two weeks behind, three more to go23 Nov 2008
Hi everybody!

Haven't been writing so far. So here's some short thoughts about this tour...

Two weeks already behind. We started this leg in Finland. And of course, the first shows on tours are always the most difficult. So it was a shame it happened to be our home town. Technical problems (always happens with first shows) affected our sound and lights. But we tried our best to kick ass. Tampere was also bad for us cos most of the people were still outside when we started playing.

But ever since things have gotten better, and in Oslo things were already really good. We've played for big crowds. It is sometimes really challenging to get people excited, first band, early night, big cold hall and so on. Choosing 7 songs for setlist is also very difficult thing.

It is also very nice to be back touring in central Europe. Feels like it s been ages when were here last time. For me the best shows have been so far maybe Paris and Oslo. And of course the intense sweaty headliner in Hamburg in between. That day a friend of mine took me to the St. Pauli game. It was awesome. After the second show in Paris we saw Soilwork show next door! Its great to see Peter back in business, they were tight!

Big thing for us was to play the very first COB show in Denmark. That was exciting and crowd was treating us well there too!

In Amsterdam I went to see a national game, Holland - Sweden, at the famous Ajax stadium. It was awesome to see that legendary place. Litmanen.

We've had good times with the other bands. Everybody's treating us well.

Tonight we have another headliner, in Saarbrucken, southwest Germany. Its been snowing here.

Henkka

Three shows to go09 Oct 2008
Henkka: "I don't know what it is, but Ohio was crazy! I personally had two of the craziest nights of the tour in that state. First Columbus , showday, and then Cleveland, where we had a dayoff. We went to see Amorphis and those guys pulled off a great show. Then they mixed some hell of a drinks in their bus. I think it was the late night Jagerbombs that did the trick. Or the always so good (but dangerous) Fisu. Anyway, was fun and somehow we got back to the hotel (?). In Columbus, after the show some of us got invited to a houseparty, for beers and drinking games. I wanna thank the hosts for their hospitality, if they ever read this. We had good times! You guys rule. Roope might tell more about the finger fairy later. I personally never met this creature here. Shows in Ohio and Rochester were fine, and so were the crowds. Last three shows to go."

Roope: "I was able to play yesterday. It's healing pretty quickly. I got some gloves that I have been wearing (see the picture). The bad news is, Alexi got bit by the finger fairy, though it is only on his right hand."

"Couple of rough nights on the bus. We've had the finger fairy visit us at night. Always chooses one finger on my left hand and cuts it. Takes the string right to the bone when I play. I had to fix it with Crazy Glue. Tomorrow is our day off and we are going to check out Amorphis and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Hopefully I'll have a chance to fire the finger fairy. Don't do what I do."

Salsa parties and great crowds03 Oct 2008
"West Coast is done, so is the plains, and we are now here in the Midwest. San Fran was one of the best I think. Great Venue, great crowd, especially right in front of me...Then the warmth ended. Went to Portland and Seattle. So cooler weather but good crowds again! Then refreshing dip in the Salt Lake. This venue was new to us, and on the shore of the lake, but it was surprising that there was so many people. Wow, we do have great package here! Then good times in Denver, and crazy sweaty show in Kansas City, and the infamous salsa party after the show. Many blackouts, but we survived. To Illinois. The Pop's, to Minnesota, where the expected happened. The first ones to get sick. No surprise, me , like always and Jaska too. First thing in the morning, hospital, couple of hours there to find out whats wrong. Ten hard medication..So the Myth show was really hard for us. We had good times but physically it was really difficult. House of Blues Chicago is always good, and the sick ones were not so sick any more, but still really hard to pull off a COB show. We try our best. And tonight Milwaukee Wisconsin. Lets see how the Rave is treating us! Hope nobody's getting sick anymore... "

Henkka's update, MTV EMA nomination15 Sep 2008
The band is currently touring the US with The Black Dahlia Murder and Between The Buried And Me. Bassist Henkka Blacksmith comments from the road after the start of the tour:

"The first headlining tour in the States since 2006. We are excited!!! Our first time in Baltimore was really cool. Of course we didn't expect anything but there were people and the crowd was great!! Thanks for that. McNulty didnt show up tho...

And the show in Masquerade Atlanta was one of the hottest we have experienced ever. Really. It was difficult for us, but I bet it was difficult for the crowd too. But we pulled it off somehow and it was sweaty and intense. Just the way I like it!

Now we are heading to Texas, hope there are no hurricanes coming our way. Looking forward to play the new venue in Dallas, and also to hang out more with the Black Dahlia and Between guys later on, not enough parties yet, but I m sure we ll fix that!"

Tomorrow the 16th of September the Hate Crew tears up the House of Blues in Dallas, TX. You can find the rest of the scheduled tourdates here.

In other news, Children Of Bodom is nominated together with Nightwish, Disco Ensemble, HIM and Anna Abreu for the Best Finnish Act in the MTV European Music Awards 2008.
