'Can You Draw the Internet?' Pits Creative Industry Against Kids

Internet Week Europe took place in London this past week, and as part of the festivities they held an online art contest to see who could draw the best interpretation of the internet. The contest was open to school children (ie: kids who have grown up with the internet as a huge part of their lives) and to people who work in creative fields (ie: people who spend a lot of time on the internet), and some of the entries on both ends are really awesome.

Voting starts today, so I've rounded up eight of the coolest entries that are on display so far for you to check out after the jump.

4chan Users Try to DDoS Tumblr, Tumblrs Raid 4chan in Revenge

The final phase of Operation Overlord, 4chan's loosely-orchestrated effort to bring down Tumblr, is on. And this time they're bringing their LOIC's. LOIC stands for Lower Orbit Ion Cannon, the nickname of a program that will DoS (Denial of Service) attack a targeted site.

After the jump, the full poster explaining the upcoming raid.

Racist Lady Erica Winchester Rants at Mailman, Gets Him Fired, Internet Finds and Punishes Her

After a black USPS delivery man secretly taped a deranged woman's racist tirade against him, the term "going postal" is bound to re-enter our cultural lexicon, this time to describe the crazed customer. In fact, the postal worker remained remarkably calm during the whole fiasco.

The epic story out of Hingham, Massachusetts went down like this: Apparently a woman signed for a certified letter that was delivered to her address, but then decided she didn't want it because it was for her husband and not herself.

She then tried to return the letter to the mailman -- but, of course, you can't actually do that because it is against the law. So instead of doing something rational like sticking the letter back in her mailbox, or, say, giving it to her husband, she went nuts and started screaming at the mailman. At one point she actually reached in and slapped him across the face.

The video gets progressively more racist as it goes on -- just when you think she can't possibly say anythign more horrifically offensive, she goes and outdoes herself. It's almost performance art, really. The worst kind of performance art ever.

Here's part one of the video -- but be warned, it's extremely, extremely racist.

Jimmy Kimmel and Lisa Kudrow Promote National Unfriend Day for Facebook

Jimmy KimmelLate night TV host Jimmy Kimmel has declared next Wednesday, November 17, National Unfriend Day -- a pretend holiday where he hopes people will take the time to go through their Facebook accounts and weed out the people that they're not actually friends with.

In preparation for NUD, Kimmel has drafted his own official document, which he calls the Declaration of Indefriendence, and had Lisa Kudrow come on the show to do a PSA spot about what real friendship is (she'd know, since she was a Friend -- get it!?).

Check out the video after the jump, and hey, if you're feeling like cutting some ties next Wednesday feel free to participate in NUD and tell us about it.

'Song-A-Day' Star Jonathan Mann Does an Urly Show Song!

Jonathan Mann Song A DayJonathan 'Song-a-Day' Mann has been featured on Urlesque before for his insane feat of writing and recording a new song every day, but did you know he's also a regular viewer of our podcast, The Urly Show? In fact, he's such a big fan that he wrote us an amazing song for one of The Urly Show's regular features, the Too Long, Didn't Read Quiz.

In case you're not watching the Urly Show: (A) shame on you! and (B) the TL;DR Quiz is a feature where Urlbot Eliot challenges one of our readers, usually appearing via Skype, with trivia questions about stuff we've covered on Urlesque that week. If the reader gets all the questions right (or any of the questions right, or none of the questions right), we send them a prize from our big pile o' Urlesque junk. Except that, for legal reasons, we can't actually call it a prize. It's a "gift."

If you want to appear on the show and get a gift, drop us a line via the Urlesque Facebook page. It's the most fun you will ever have in your life, and we'll refund all your money if you don't agree. But, guys, you don't have to take my word for it. You can listen to a guy whose music was played by Steve Jobs at an Apple keynote instead.

Thanks for the song, Jonathan! We love it!

Old Spice Guy Spoofed by Page 3's Topless Model (The One)

page 3 girl rosie spoofing old spice guyThe Old Spice Guy meme, like Old Spice Guy Isaiah Mustafa himself, is tough and resilient. Months after Isaiah's YouTube campaign reached its glorious end, new Old Spice spoofs continue to pop up, and the latest comes from the topless Page 3 models of British tabloid The Sun. Remember the Old Spice catchphrase "The man your man could smell like?" Well, Page 3's Rosie is "the woman you'd love your woman to be like."

As with most things involving the phrase "topless models," this spoof is probably NSFW (although there's no actual nudity).

This parody hits 90% of the phrases in the Old Spice meme, including "now back to me," "I'm on a horse," and "the tickets are now diamonds." It's just one swan dive short of perfection. Although we can all agree that Isaiah Mustafa is a fine specimen of a man, who brings a lot to the table, he doesn't have Rosie's accent. Or those coconuts. Check out the video below while I snicker like a 6th-grader. Heh heh, coconuts.

A Bunch of Bicyclists Are Really Happy That It's Friday

bicyclistsThe first week of daylight savings is always brutal because you're so disoriented. It gets dark like a thousand hours before you want to go to sleep, your alarm goes off at the wrong time, and... ugh. Sometimes it's just nice to have a bunch of really happy bicyclists cheering you into the weekend for no good reason.

WE MADE IT EVERYONE! WOO! YEAH!

Damn You Auto Correct! - Readers' Top Ten Autocorrect Fails

Autocorrect fail: Let's bang under the starsDamn You Auto-Correct is like Texts From Last Night meets an unfinished analogy. It's funnier than I expected, because there are so many ways that an iPhone can turn a misspelled word into a completely different word.

These aren't typos, they're little works of alchemy, and despite the iPhone's fear of swear words (am I ducking right?), many of them turn normal sentences into sexy come-ons.

"Damn You Auto-Correct" publisher Jillian Madison sent us her readers' top ten favorite iPhone mis-corrections. Let's read them! Usurpation Yeeeeeeah!

22 High-larious Computer Screen Reaction Drawings

I noticed a trend on 4chan - MS Paint drawings of stick figures reacting to a computer screen. I've gathered over 20 of these images, which I think are weirdly hilarious. They can exhibit rage, joy, confusion or any other emotion that might result from experiencing something on the web.

Every once in a while, 4chan users will participate in a "reaction thread," which is an opportunity for everyone to post images that they use to illustrate their reactions to each other's posts. These stick figures frequently appear in these threads, and I've been saving them so you can have them in one convenient spot.

Because you've got a friend in me.

Family Feud - The Internet's Next Most Viral Game Show?

family feudDid you know Family Feud was still on TV? Well, it is. Remember when Louie Anderson hosted it in, like, 1975 or something? Well, boy, times have changed. Not only is the show now hosted -- brilliantly, might I add -- by Steve Harvey, but one clip has already gone viral (you know, the one where a contestant said what we were all thinking, and it was funny because we were all thinking "penis").

Well, let's kick into Phase 2, as the game show's producers extracted another silly answer from another insipid question. What is something a burglar would not want to see when he breaks into a house? Good question, Family Feud producers! Viable answers might involve cops or guard dogs or ghosts or dinosaurs or something who cares whatever blah blah blah

Not only does Rod shout out something NO HUMAN BEING might imagine seeing upon breaking into one's home, but among those polled for answers, most people agree with him. Kind of. Not really.

Behind Wheel of Fortune, it looks like we may have a new source of viral game show material. I mean, whatever -- we report, you decide.

David Thorne Vs. Reddit - Famed Internet Troll Acts Like a Jerk to the People Who Bought His Book

david thorne book the internet is a playgroundI guess it shouldn't be a surprise when a professional internet troll turns out to be a jerk, but web comedy writer David Thorne (known for trying to pay his bills with a drawing of a 7-legged spider) gave some of his fans a rude awakening this week when one of his staffers put their addresses online.

The fans had taken to Reddit to complain that their orders for Thorne's book, The Internet Is a Playground, had gone unfilled for weeks or even months with no response from the author. One of Thorne's employees responded on Reddit by posting the addresses from their book orders and refusing to delete them until they took their complaints down.
