XLarge Japan’s Holiday 2010 lookbook doesn’t look too holiday-ish, but that’s the point–get some good wear out of your holiday buys instead of ditching them after the new year. “The World’s Most Gigantic Clothing Label Since 1991″ puts their appropriately extra-large logo on sweatpants and sweatshirts and is mostly distributed in Japan, but we’re fans of the pieces from afar. This is the second CXXVI Anchor Necklace, and this one’s a little more avant-garde than the first. With a wider t-shape and a rough hammered look, this bottle opener necklace is extremely useful when you’re trapped way out anywhere with some long necks. Let’s say you’re in a warmer climate and aren’t going to be wearing a full-length coat any time soon. There’s always a denim jacket waiting in the wings. For me, the most impressive thing about a designer or an entrepreneur in the fashion business is that they make money by selling their tastes to others. I’m pretty sure of my taste, my sense of colour and of sartorial propriety, but I’m still a long way off having the confidence to risk my own money selling that taste to others. Such is the risk of business.
Will Boehlke in San Francisco recently took just such a risk with the launch of his online store.
The Teddyfish Tote Bag is inspired by French film Le Ballon Rouge, and its stunning cherry-red colorway on the bottom combined with white is based on the balloon in the film. It’s not to everyone’s taste, but with a red lining and that bold look, it’ll get you noticed. It’s also insanely roomy, with a snap at top and multiple straps. Crinkled leather is great for jackets, but it’s not the easiest to find. This Horace version, with some added texture, is especially attractive because the texture helps balance that expanse of dark leather. Waterproof shoes! So many of us could use a pair of these, and don’t they look better than the standard rubber galosh version? Nonnative’s waterproof sneakers flaunt an interesting upper called “money-suede cowskin,” which is lined with Gore-Tex. If you’re a taller guy, you might like your jackets to hit lower on the body than the at-the-waist bombers and some double-breasted styles. This find at Oak in black features welt pockets at the waist and back seam details, plus a dramatic collar set off by snap closures. The Aviation and Superyacht division of Pure-Sang, in cooperation with Glass-Deco International, introduced its latest luxury vehicle, The Beluga: Emperor of the Seven Seas, at last month’s Monaco boat show, where it won the title of “Best New Super Yacht Concept.”
