"Welcome, fool. You have come of your own free will to the appointed place. The game's over."
The Wicker Man is a highly unusual film, originally released in 1973, starring Edward Woodward, Christopher Lee, and Britt Eckland. This British thriller tells the story of a devout christian policeman who is called out to a remote Scottish island by a worried resident regarding the disappearance of a missing child.
Within this site you will find illustrated reports from The Wicker Man's often picturesque filming locations. We also have contributions from a number of locals who were involved with the production. You will also find articles on various aspects of the film which we feel have not been documented fully elsewhere. We will not attempt to catalogue every event in the film's tortured past here ( the basic gist can be read in our 'facts and fancies' section ). Neither do we intend to discuss the different edits of this film in great detail. These intricacies can be read elsewhere. For this, we would recommend Steve Phillips' excellent, and highly informative, site entitled 'The various versions of The Wicker Man'. Check our links page for details. Similarly, we will not devote much space to hypothesis regarding the film's themes as a) we could go on all day if we started, and b) we will assume viewers are capable of doing this themselves. Many reports on the film have a habit of contradicting each other too, so we shall endeavour to stick with the facts as best we can. What is certain, though, is that despite its troubled history, The Wicker Man has become a genuine classic film whose themes of 'death and rebirth' have been mirrored both on and off screen. We hope that, as either an existing fan or a person with a passing interest in the film, there is something of interest for you here. "Come...it is time to keep your appointment with The Wicker Man"
