Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is more common than any other cancer in men. When caught and treated early, prostate cancer has a high cure rate.

Treatment of metastatic prostate cancer has not improved much in recent years. Some effect in metastatic prostate cancer has been seen with hormone treatment. Hormone treatment slows the tumour growth by blocking testosterone production, or alternatively by blocking testosterone activity. Hormone treatment usually becomes ineffective after a period - leaving chemotherapy as the only available option.

The life expectancy for metastatic prostate cancer patients reaching the stage of hormone resistance is only approximately 18-24 months

Improved therapies for metastatic prostate cancer patients are urgently needed
