CUPS king Bart Cummings has left hospital in time to attend Tuesday's Melbourne Cup.
And that's exactly what the legendary trainer hopes to do.
A smiling Cummings left Richmond's Epworth Hospital about 12:45pm flanked by his wife Valmae.
The 82-year-old, who is recovering from pneumonia, was admitted to hospital on Thursday.
It was feared the hospital stay would put Cummings' attendance at Tuesday's race in doubt despite the prospect of a record 13th Cup triumph with a contingent expected to be led by his latest stable superstar, So You Think.
But Cummings said from his hospital bed he had every intention of being at Flemington for the race that stops the nation.
"I'd like to think I'll be there on Tuesday," he said.
Earlier today, at Melbourne's St Francis Church today, it was standing room only for the annual racing fraternity mass.
The packed congregation said a prayer for the legendary trainer, who was released from hospital today, and hoped he would be fit and well to attend the cup.
Bart's grandson Edward took his usual place in the ceremonial procession.
Son Anthony Cummings said his dad was feeling better and would hopefully be well enough to attend the Cup on Tuesday.
He said his father watched champion horse So You Think win on Saturday.
"When you win, you're always happy," he said.
The congregation also prayed for members of the racing fraternity who has passed away in the last year, including jockey Stathi Katsidis, who died from a suspected drug overdose less than a fortnight ago.
Officials have revealed plans for Cummings to be escorted by a critical care nurse, paramedic and ambulance officer to ensure he is in the best of hands on Tuesday.
The Victoria Racing Club has made arrangements with Epworth and the National Patient Transport, which also provides ambulances to Flemington, to remove any fears Cummings will not have the best treatment at hand in case of a relapse.
