Our first release is finally out!!

You can buy it directly at kompakt or in a lot of other shops worldwide.

The response to our first release has been great. Boomkat wrote about the release:

Extraordinary and essential archival obscurity from kosmische generator Conrad Schnitzler, reissued for the first time on vinyl with reshapes from Pole, and Bornbräber & Strüver. Schnitzler’s 20 minute composition ‘Zug’ was issued on a private tape back in 1974, capturing the innovator in his most alien and transcendental form. The track revolves around a hypnotic and infinitely linear rhythm which Schnitzler gradually develops into glorious astral plumes, increasing with creepy intensity towards some foreboding, unresolved conclusion. The two remixes offer possible solutions to this problem. Firstly, Pole’s reshape sounds remarkably similar to the recent MvO Trio experiments, detaching the prickly, metallic hi-end rhythms and arranging them around a swooping subbass momentum with acres of space in between. It’s more earthbound than the original, but equally hypnotic and abstract. Further on and Bornbräber & Strüver give another grounded but similarly driving effort loaded with slow pounding kicks and a slowly maturing synth grind reminding us of Motiivi:Tuntematon’s incredible ‘Mankind Failed’ to some extent. No messing, this is an unbelievably important archival discovery which couldn’t have surfaced at a more apt time. Highly recommended.

More reviews will follow soon.

Conrad Schnitzler – Zug

zug - cover

mm-001lp

VÖ: 30.08.2010

We at m=minimal are proud to have “Conrad Schnitzler’s –
Zug“ as our first release.
Schnitzler’s Zug is one of the most important and first
electronic minimalist works that were published in the 70s.
Almost simultaneously with the Kraftwerk’s groundbreaking
“Autobahn” Zug appeared on the legendary “the red cassette“. The Wire Magazine wrote about Zug:
“Kraftwerk might have used similar methods to create rhythm” and “three decades on, it still sounds the future”. We at m=minimal can only join those statements.
The release is rounded off with a remix of Con-Fan Stefan Betke aka Pole. Pole and Kassian Troyer (Radian) have mastered the record, best quality is guaranteed. Another remix is contributed by “borngräber and strüver“.

Conrad Schnitzler – The original member of Tangerine Dream and a founding member of Kluster is creator of milestones in the history of electronic popular music. His works are released world-wide, published mainly in the U.S., Japan, Britain, France and Italy. As one of the first students of Joseph Beuys, Conrad Schnitzler is also well known in the fine-art-scene.

Chico Mello – Água

chico mello - agua

mm-002lp

VÖ: 04.10.2010

The second release of m=minimal “Água” is the rediscovery of a musical jewel. The first limited edition of this extraordinary album was released in 1984 in Brasil.

In the 80s in the field of minimal music nothing similar to it was released and it was long overdue to make this record accessible again.

Imagine the scene: Caetano Veloso and Jim O’Rourke would join to record brasil-colored minimal pieces. The result might sound like this recordings.
Chico Mello – Brazilian composer who studied with Dieter Schnebel and Witold Szalonek lives and works in Berlin for 20 years. His works have been played at the most important festivals of contemporary/new music (Donaueschingen Music Festival, Musica Viva München, Inventionen Berlin, Maerz Musik, International de Musique Electroacoustique de Bourges, France, Festival Música Nova São Paulo, Bienal de Música Contemporânea Rio de Janeiro, etc.).

Chico Mello worked among others with colleagues such as Arnold Dreyblatt (Animal Magnetism on Tzadik (one of the favorite albums of Jim O’Rourke)), Daniel Ott, and Burkhard Schlotthauer’s Wandelweiser ensemble. Currently he is working with Nicholas Bussmann (Kapital Band I / Ich schwitze nie) on a Brazilian song cycle.
This album has been mastered at scape mastering studio Berlin.

in g - cover mm-003lp

VÖ: 18.10.2010

“21th Century-Electronic-Krautrock” is perhaps the best description for the album “in g”, in which borngräber & strüver skillfully recombine the influences of motoric-Krauts as “neu” and the achievements of Minimal-Techno to their own musical statements. There is no trance bliss or party sound, only condensed musical statements. “in g” is a great contribution to the history of motoric-Krautrock.

It was 1999 when borngräber & strüver met at “Ninetynine Records” in Berlin. Since then they work together on musical projects. Their first release “ep” on the UK label Blue Juice polarized and was soon followed by remixes for artists like “A Guy Called Gerald” and “Beth Hirsch”. Quite peculiar is their debut album “transcontinental”. Dark blade runner inspired atmos and fine electro beats meet dub effects and surprising breaks. borngräber & strüver blend guitars, vocals and horns in a particulary way. The album sounds like the soundtrack for “mental cinema”. The sequel album “Berlin”, is planned for 2011. They recorded it together with guests like Tikiman. Also included are remixes by Smith & Mighty.
