Welcome to my website! I hope that everyone
who visits will enjoy finding out more about my books
for children, young adults and
adults. Please email
me to let me know your thoughts and opinions. I'm always happy
to hear from my readers. I'll be writing a bi-monthly newsletter
for the site and it's here that you'll be able to find details of
forthcoming events and publications. I also write about what I've
been reading and what I think of it. On the bibliography
page you can see some of my more recent books listed and the links
page will lead you to other interesting websites.
A short biographical note: I was born in Jerusalem in 1944 and spent my early
childhood in many different countries because my father was in the Colonial
Service. Before I was eleven, I'd lived in Cyprus, Nigeria, and North Borneo
and later my parents were also sent to the Gambia and Tanganyika (now Tanzania)
where I used to join them for summer holidays. I went to boarding-school in
England (Roedean School, Brighton) in 1955 and went on to read French and Spanish
at St. Hilda's College, Oxford. I graduated in 1966.
I've been an actress and singer and a teacher of French in a girls'
school in Manchester before becoming a full-time writer in 1976.
Since then, I've published more than ninety books for children and
young adults.I've written four novels for adults, all published
by Orion. These are: Facing the Light,
Hester's Story, Made
in Heaven and A Hidden Life.
I've lived in Manchester for 40 years. I'm married to Norman Geras
and we have two grown-up daughters and three grandchildren.
