PAKISTAN: A young man goes missing in custody after policemen raped him

STATEMENT: A young man has disappeared from police custody after being raped by two police officials. The police officials have been arrested after protests by the villagers but the young man has not been recovered. The district police of Naushahro Feroze, Sindh province, have not initiated a proper investigation into his disappearance.

SAUDI ARABIA/SRI LANKA: Prayers being offered by Muslims in Sri Lanka for Rizana Nafeek, a young innocent Sri Lankan girl facing the death sentence in Saudi Arabia -- a reissue of the appeal to the Muslim world for compassionate intervention

STATEMENT: A prominent Muslim leader in Sri Lanka was reported today to have announced that prayers will be offered at the Mosque in Sri Lanka on behalf of Rizana Nafeek, a young girl who is facing the death sentence in Saudi Arabia. Her case is now before an advisor to the King for consideration of granting a pardon for her. His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka has already written to His Royal Highness the King of Saudi Arabia, the Guardian of the Two Mosques, to consider granting a pardon to Rizana.

The State of Human Rights in Ten Asian Nations - 2009

In "The State of Human Rights in Ten Asian Nations - 2009" the Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) presents analysis concerning the human rights situations, violations and developments it has encountered during its work in 2009.

The AHRC documents and launches campaigns concerning hundreds of individual cases of grave human rights abuses each year in these countries.  This allow it to identify trends in human rights violations and lacuna in the protection of rights that need to be addressed.
