    Music Video Weekly #114

    October 19th, 2010

Today I checked out Del Tha Funkee Homosapien’s first album, I Wish My Brother George Was Here.. I have always been familiar of him as he did a couple songs on the Gorillaz first album as well as a song on Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3. The albums title is a reference to one of his biggest influences, George Clinton. For those of you who don’t know Del is Ice Cube’s cousin. Ice Cube appears on a couple of skits on the album. It was also said that Del used to ghostwrite for Cube during his Lench Mob days. I Wish My Brother George Was Here is a great album. Del’s unique voice and flow make for a very interesting album. My favorite tracks are “The Wack World of Rapid Transit,” “Pissin on Your Steps,” “Dark Skin Girls,” “Sunny Meadowz,” “Sleepin on My Couch,” and “Ya Lil Crumbsnatchers.” Today’s video is his second single off the album, “Sleepin On My Couch.” This song has Del rapping about all the lazy bums that end up sleeping on his couch.

Freeway – Escalators [prod. by Jake One]

    October 19th, 2010

Freeway is back once again with another video off his upcoming album, Diamond in the Ruf. Much like the last joint, “Beautiful Music,” this is also produced by Jake One. While his new album doesn’t have a release date yet I think we can realistically see it dropping early next year. Also, look out for some crazy work ethic again as I heard he’s planning on brining back his Hip Hop Weekly series. The Stimulus Package is still a Top 10 album to drop this year and I’m sure his next will be the same. Freeway is doing his thing and making himself more well known than he’s ever been.

    Single of the Week #42

    October 16th, 2010

David Banner was one of those artists that always had a slew of “real” songs on his album. I always felt like he should scrap the bullshit singles and make a whole album like that. Well my wish has pretty much come true with his upcoming album, Death Of A Pop Star produced entirely by 9th Wonder. I’m crossing my fingers that he does those 9th Wonder beats justice as he has done on “What Can I Do.” This track didn’t make the album but it will definitely be going on my IPod version. Death Of A Pop Star has a no pun intended release date of November 9th.

Twista – The Heat (feat. Raekwon)

    October 16th, 2010

Here’s Twista’s latest vid for his single “Heat” off his new project entitled, The Perfect Storm. This joint leaked a couple months back but I never got around to listening to it. It’s produced by long time Twista producer, Traxter and the godfather of Chicago hip hop, NO I.D. This song is great and the video matches it pretty well. Raekwon drops an extremely dope verse and meshes with the songs beat perfectly. I hope Twista finally hits his mark with this album. In my opinion he hasn’t been able to produce an album along the same caliber of Kamikaze. His last album Category F5 was probably the closest he’s come but it still was lacking. Look for The Perfect Storm at your local music store this November 9th.

Lil Wayne – Pop Dat (feat. Birdman)

    October 16th, 2010

Today, DJ Scoob Doo let lose of a street video he shot for Lil Wayne’s “Pop That” off one of the hottest mixtapes last year, No Ceilings. I’m mainly posting this to tell you that you should definitely check out DJ Scoob Doo’s Nino Brown Story Part 2 DVD when you get the chance. If your a fan of Weezy then you’ll love it. It shows him going through the recording process for No Ceilings. Free Weezy already!

Ja Rule – Press On (feat. Mary J. Blige)

    October 16th, 2010

Ja Rule’s been through a ton of career politics as of late. He’s been struggling to find the right deal, work on his brand new album, as well as keep his name out there. Here’s a low budget video he shot for a buzz single off his upcoming album, Rule York. My best guess is we’ll see it early 2011. Being that his last unreleased CD, The Mirror was a breath of fresh air I know we won’t be disappointed when it finally hits the shelves.

Rick Ross – Aston Martin Music/I’m Not A Star

    October 16th, 2010

Sorry for my delay in posting this but I’ve been busy all weekend. Here’s the final version of Rick Rosses “Aston Martin Music.” An “uncomplete” version leaked two weekends earlier but was quickly removed. The cool thing about this is they chose to do a video for the remix with Drake’s verse. I always felt like that version shoulda made the album. Overall the video is nothing special but its great to have some visuals. Be sure to hit the jump for another video for his single , “I’m Not A Star.” Teflon Don is in stores now and it’s worth the purchase.

    Throwback Wednesday

    October 13th, 2010

This Wednesday I’m giving you a joint from Prodigy, Alchemist and Un Pacino off Mick Boogie’s 2006 mixtape, The Pre-Up. If you remember correctly it was a promo mixtape put out that previewed tracks on Eminem’s at the time upcoming compilation album, The Re-Up. This track has Prodigy, Alchemist and Un Pacino rapping over Eminem’s “We as Americans” beat. My best guess is Alch secured the track from Eminem and got his boys to rap over it. It’s a great joint for all Mobb fans. Sometimes I feel it was slept on. Prodigy is coming out February of next year and the Mobb will be back in full effect. I can’t wait hear the crazy shit Prodigy will be rapping about.

    Mixtape Monthly: September 2010

    October 13th, 2010

I know I’m hella late with this one but I’ve been so busy with shit that I keep forgetting to do this. I wasn’t really sure of what mixtape to post either until last night. My favorite mixtape from Septermber is A-Mafia’s In My Own Mind. This would be A-Mafia’s second dope mixtape of the year. His first was Lord of the Streets. He also dropped another mixtape by the name of Digital Hustler but I felt that one was very underwhelming. Overall A-Mafia has been on point this year. He got out of jail late last year and has been dropping dope shit ever since. My favorite songs from the tape are: “Street Soldiers,” “A-Mafia or Die,” “Children of the Corn,” “Big Cat,” “Switch up my Flow,” “Live and Let Die,” and “Flying Cars.” Hit the jump for the tracklist.

    2010 BET Awards Re-Cap

    October 13th, 2010

I didn’t get a chance to watch the awards last night due to plain out forgetting. I did however get the chance to see the performances online. Below will be my highlights of the Award show. First off Let’s start off with the Cyphers. Kanye West and G.O.O.D. Music delivered the best one without question. Kanye was the best of the bunch but Pusha T was a close second. Hit the jump for the other highlights.
