Opposition to Discussions on New West Partnership
The Manitoba government should stay as far away as possible from the New West Partnership, says the Council of Canadians and Manitoba Federation of Labour. Both groups are concerned by information indicating that Manitoba has held "exploratory discussions" with Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia about joining the trade and investment pact. Malteurop Malting Workers on Picketline
UFCW Local 832 members who work at Malteurop have chosen the picketline over the company's last offer. A strike began against the facility on Thursday morning, December 9. The main issue in dispute is the company's refusal to remove concessions in the member's pension and benefits. The 22 plant workers produce malt for beer, most notably the Moosehead brand.


Workplace Harassment, Bullying and Violence Workshops
The Province of Manitoba is providing half day workshops on the new Workplace Safety and Health regulations regarding workplace harassment and bullying. The workshops also cover workplace violence. A workshop will be offered in Winnipeg next Monday, December 13. A full-day training course will be offered by the Province starting in March. (More)

As part of their Respect Campaign, CUPE has produced a video entitled 'So Much With So Little: Who Cares for the Caregivers?'. The campaign is designed to raise public awareness about the importance of programs designed to alleviate the suffering of people in need and the challenges that face the professionals who deliver these services.
