Farm work is a shitty job. There is a reason that, over the last 50 years, NC has worked hard to ensure that farm workers are not the backbone of the economy. An 18th century agrarian economy benefits no one. That said, we do have plenty of work for people who just aren’t suited for anything but hauling bails of potatoes.
Maybe it is important to remember that if you find yourself in a field picking cotton or tobacco, you may want to reconsider having a family.
