IGOR WAKHEVITCH

Tonight wel explore the music of IGOR WAKHEVITCH. Wakhevitch studied under musique concrete founder Pierre Scheaffer, worked with minimalist composer Terry Riley, and composed the music for Salvador Dali's opera Etre Dieu. On top of the Dali opera, he released six records in the 1970s which in the words of the Swan's Michael Gira are "The most astonishing music I have heard in some years... Amazing approach to sound, from classical to experimental, psychadelia to film music. Ominous and beautiful, then clamorous and Wagnerian. At some points it sounds like contemporary electronic music, then shifts seemlessly into a full classical orchestra," while a Pitchfork review of one his records was titled "It Was the Strangest Record I Had Ever Heard."
