Gloom and Doom Double Header

Get ready for a "Mitakuye Oyasin" GLOOM AND DOOM DOUBLE HEADER!

On Thursday, December 6th, on KBOO 90.7 fm, from 1:30pm to 3:00pm, we will have James Craven, Economics Department Head at Clark College and Blackfoot Solicitor General on to discuss...

THE ECONOMY!

BE AFRAID! BE VERY AFRAID!

For Thursday, December 13, from 1:30pm to 3:00pm Shusli and Urban Scout have set up a phone interview for "Mitakuye Oyasin" with Derrick Jensen...

WE'RE FUCKING SCREWED!

Derrick's latest work, "Endgame," is a discussion about the unsustainability of alleged civilization.

Come prepared with duct tape and plastic for the

GLOOM AND DOOM "MITAKUYE OYASIN" DOUBLE HEADER!

If you are out of the litening area, you can always listen on the web:

www.kboo.fm

...damn, we're screwed...

Actually, there is a lot of hope in the words of these two folks. There are still lots of things we can do, but it just isn't as fun making a promo about...

ALL THE FUN THINGS WE CAN DO TO SURVIVE THE FALL OF CIVILIZATION

...it just doesn't have the same dramatic effect. Know what I'm sayin'?

Democracy Ball

The word "democracy" gets tossed about like it is a beach ball at a rock concert. Democracy is discussed like it is the end and all be all form of government, like veganism is the end all and be all of everything.

Folks vote for their representatives. The folks running for election tell lies about what they are going to do when elected into office. Their campaigns are ran by their corporate owners because once they get elected, they are in the pockets of the corporations that bought them in the first place. The common folk are thrust aside, even the common folk that work for said democracy.

Democratic actions led to the illegal war in Iraq. These actions have tortured, murdered, displaced, hundreds of thousands of people. These actions have polluted there lands for thousands of years to come.

Democratic actions killed hundreds of folks here in the states looking to do things like...unionize.

Democratic actions have and are still committing genocide against indigenous folks.

Democratic actions have enslaved blacks and now offer them a kinder gentler form of segregation.

And the list goes on and on and on.

Democracy is just a word tossed about for political gain in one form or another.

Governments, in my opinion, should be set up to take care of their people and their land base.

Governments currently could care less about their people and take everything that belongs to others.

We need to look at as many systems of governing as possible. One government does not work for all. It depends on the needs of the people and the needs of the land.

That said, I'll leave you with a quote by Mark Twain:

If voting could change anything, they would have made it illegal.

Hmmm...

The moon was full as it pulled the horizon up to greet another day here in our Nopo neighborhood.

Here are a couple of photos of our "invisicat," Jake. I Love the bottom one with the evil green eyes. He spends most of his time in our closet or otherwise hiding. He was lost for four days under the house after being attacked by Allia. He is very cute. He likes to nudge his food, but vomits because he overeats after having affection bestowed upon him. He is still fur and bones, though. Too stressed out he is.
Been worried quite a bit about Felicia. She is in the midst of another move with her mom and is sad about having to go to another school.
A cold leaf on a frosty morning.
Shusli and I watched "This is England." It is about a young boy who in 1983 becomes a Skinhead in England. I was both bored and fascinated with this movie, which seemed to be a powerful metaphor for the empowering and self-destruction/destruction of violence. The boys father had died in Maggie's war in the Falkland Islands. An outcast at school, he hooks up with the Skinheads which becomes empowering but destructive.

I haven't felt like writing much lately. I've been particularly uninspired. Shusli and I have been worried about Felicia and the whole world. My car seems to be on the verge of breaking down as yesterday, at stop signs and such, my car suddenly dies.

Shusli got an interview with Derrick Jensen for our "Mitakuye Oyasin" show on December 13 [more on that later].

Remember the Minnesota Bridge Collapse?

I don't know why, but I've been thinking about the I-35 Minnesota Bridge collapse of August 1, lately.

If you click on the photo, you will find a link to articles posted on Minnesota Public Radio.

I find the limiting of information being released quite interesting. It was a public bridge for public use funded by public money. The public should receive ALL of the information. Then again, there are folks in government, like Rudy Giulliani. Rudy sent all the WTC rubble to the dump instead of allowing an investigation. Seems like the same kind of ass covering is happening here.

As well their seems to be an effort by the Bush administration to keep the bridge rebuilding and federal bridge repairing defunded. The money, of course, is probably best used for war.

Why Do Americans Hate Peace and the Troops So Much?

Everyday, I am more amazed at how amazing some Americans are and at how excessively stupid most have allowed themselves to become.

Click on the photo to be sent to an article on Common Dreams about a group of high school students at Cocoa Beach Florida that have started a Peace T-Shirt Day. That was all it started out to be, and turned into a major political issue within the school involving students who love war and the administration as well.

Some of the students have started wearing confederate flag t-shirts and claiming that it isn't racist but in support of the troops. What about the black troops? Do they think wearing a confederate flag is in their support? Really? Indians? Mexicans? Cubans? Asians? Does the confederate flag means they support those folks as well? Do they believe that if a black soldier came to their school would he feel supported by their wearing of a t-shirt with a confederate flag on it? I believe the most useful word here would be...STUPID!

I like these peace kids. I believe they are learning a whole lot about peace, politics, life, racism, etc., by a simple act they thought would have a simple message. It is turning into quite the complex issue.

Some folks are even wearing Support the Troops shirts. What a buncha bullshit. Simple solutions for complex problems. I SERIOUSLY DOUBT those folks wearing support the troops shirts actually do.
This is James Blake Miller, also known as the Marlboro Marine. This famous photo of him was taken by Luis Sinco during the razing of Fallujah by the United States. You can find all sorts of articles about him out in the news now as he is speaking out against the war.

You see, just a few days after his participation in the razing of Fallujah, James Blake Miller was caught with his loaded weapon in his mouth just about to pull the trigger. What James has is commonly known as PTSD. Back here in the states, his PTSD has not only caused him continual suffering, but has also destroyed his marriage. The U.S. government does little or nothing to help this man whose suffering they caused via this ILLEGAL war and occupation in Iraq, which, by the way, is nothing new. And, if you look throughout history, you will find out that the U.S. government has treated most soldiers called to do their bidding in war like, well...SHIT! It doesn't take much research to understand this FACT!

So, when assholes, I mean folks wear t-shirts and bumper stickers saying "support the troops," they are a bunch of fucking liars. I never see those folks out in front of city hall or capital buildings screaming at the shoddy treatment of our soldiers by the U.S. government. I never hear them screaming about getting these folks good mental health care for their PTSD. I never hear them screaming about the offensiveness of the fact that many soldiers coming back with missing arms and legs have to PAY FOR THEIR OWN FUCKING HEALTH CARE! I never hear "support the troops" assholes screaming about soldiers who've been wounded having to pay back their sign up bonus to the U.S. government because they didn't complete their duty because they were discharged because they got wounded in battle. So when folks tell me they support the troops or I see those bumper stickers, I know those folks are a buncha fuckin' liars who care NOTHING about the troops, really. They just enjoy THEIR simple solution to quite a complex problem. In fact, I think it is an easy argument to make, even before those Cocoa Beach students started letting it be known they "support the troops," as it were, actually support the troops more than any of those reactionary fucking idiots that share their school and wear bullshit like confederate flag t-shirts in "honor of the [white only?] troops."

Let's not forget what we have asked our soldiers to do and why they are getting fucked up and why saying you support the troops is a complete fucking lie in my opinion. Any combat soldier will tell you that when they are in a firefight, they could give a fuck about american ideals of alleged peace, freedom, and democracy. They only care about getting out of their alive and keeping their buddies alive. They do not carry any higher ideals at those points.

And what of the families? Why is it OK to kill other peoples children, other peoples parents, other peoples grand parents, other peoples brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, etc., as shown in these photos, but it is not OK to do it to americans?

The U.S. and many of its citizens are like the bully with the only ball. If you don't play by their rules, which state the bully wins and everyone else loses, then you don't get to play at all.

What I hate about America is that a majority of its folks are a buncha fuckin' idiots with nothin' more than simple solutions for complex problems which they pass off as THE SOLUTION. In actuality, most of those folks have NO fucking idea what the fuck they are talking about. NOR do they have ANY desire to learn a fucking thing because, like most of these types of americans, they are down right PROUD of the fact that they ARE STUPID!

So tell me, alleged support the troop assholes, why is it OK to murder Iraqi children and not U.S. children? How would you react if a nation state came here and, say, did this to one or more of your children? How do you think those who believed the lies of their nation and enacted these crimes would feel? Do you think that this is OK? Are you capable of learning beyond what you've accepted and are you capable of bringing about some sort of change where, when assholes like you TURN YOUR BACKS ON THESE CRIMES AND YOUR BACKS ON THE TROOPS YOU ALLEGE TO SUPPORT, these things ARE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN BECAUSE THE MASSES ARE AS STUPID AS YOU FUCKIN' ARE?

I'm just asking...friendo.

Boycotting Regal Cinemas

Shusli and I went to see two movies in the last several days. "No Country for Old Men," go see it. I won't say anything about it, friendo, but you should go see this movie. Wednesday we watched, "The Mist." It is based on a Stephen King story and a very good movie also...but that isn't what I want to talk to you about.

The prices are so overinflated, paying $26 for two adults and a kid, and $16 for a bucket of popcorn and two sodas, but that's not the reason. You see, some of the chain movie theaters sell commercials which is bad enough. But at both movies we were FORCED [you can't mute or change the channel] to watch Three Doors Down sing "Citizen Soldier" for a National Guard recruitment advertisement.

Felicia wondered at my complaint because she liked the song. I told her that what this is is the glorification of war to get people to sign up. It is propaganda. Soldiers are coming back with arms and legs blown off and they have to pay for them. If there duty is cut short from an injury received in combat, they have to give back all of their sign up bonus money. Folks like to say they suppor the troops, but in actuality, they could give a rats ass about them, just as much as they could give a rats ass about all the folks they are asked to kill for our alleged freedom. War is NOTHING TO BE GLORIFIED. (Read Smedley Butler's, "War is a Racket")

An interesting statistic I'll leave you with. WWI, only 10% of the casualties were civilian, WWIII, the wars in the Middle East, 90% of the casualties are civilian.

If you are pro military and not in it, SIGN UP! You are asking others to do your killing for you. Get out there and do it yourselves, assholes.

Boycott Regal Cinemas, but even if you don't, that's fine. Shusli and I will sure as hell never be going to one of those over inflated glorification of war propagandist bastards entertainment centers any time soon.

Another Genocide Cover-Up Day Under Our Belts

James Craven singing to Dick Gaughin's "Stand Up for Judas."
Shusli Baseler-Johnson, wise and wonderful.
Lana Jack, Celilo Village activist.
Warren Robinson, long lost co-host of "Mitakuye Oyasin."
The Great Carter Camp

A whole lotta wisdom at the mics, I'm tellin' ya.

Shusli lookin' sweet in a Billy Jack/Wovoka type hat.
This years "Genocide Cover-Up Day," we had a whole lotta wisdom in the room.

James Craven, Blackfoot Solicitor General and Economics Head at Clark College doled out a whole lotta knowledge to the folks listening, and sure hope a lot of you were listening. His biggest message, we have to unite.

Shusli, man, I'm tellin' you folks, I married a wise and wonderful woman, and she shined this day. Her messages that Indians aren't tokens to be used by ANY community, let alone as mascots. That people should work WITH us, and not just to get their "Indian Badge" [my wording]. And we need to get back to the land.

Lana Jack, of Celilo Village, is a testament to determination. She was slated to be kicked off of her land at Celilo Village where her family had lived for THOUSANDS of years. Why? Because she is not considered Indian by those that committed genocide against us. That's right! She is not "federally recognized."

It was good seeing Warren Robinson, long lost co-host of "Mitakuye Oyasin" again. He is an amazing poet, but we didn't have time to let him read any.

Carter Camp joined us for the second hour from the Rosebud Reservation. They are having a big suicide problem there. At least one young person a week. The most recent a mother of five, about 34 years old, just couldn't take not being able to provide for her family. Carter is a sundance leader and AIMster and was at the occupation of Wounded Knee in '73.

And then there's me, Eugene Johnson, resident loud mouth, hoping that genocide will finally be over and we won't be doing this again next year...but I know we will be.

This years message was strong. That message was pointed out strongly by Jim, and I paraphrase:

It's nice that you all care about the genocide in Darfur and other parts of the world. We all should. But there is a genocide happening right here under your noses that needs something done about it.

Get out there, folks, and do what you can to bring down the whole system and rebuild a new one that actually honors people instead of greed and the wealthy.

Roaching Your Holiday Buzz: Nothing Much has Changed, Actually

Thanksgiving day is coming up, and I Love a feast and the company of family and friends, but I also remember how we got here to celebrate this day that is allegedly to celebrate the union of Savage and Civilization, which of course, turned into conquest.

War is the most horrific thing. WAR IS TERROR!

In the good old days, soldiers for the empire used to Love the hands on killing, such as the two drawings seen above. The two photos below are of those suffering from the effects of war from the barrel of the gun, as it were.

These are images that are not in the forefront of our minds. These are not images we choose to think about. But these are images of things that have happened and continue to happen in this world.

Although I have many things to be thankful for, such as not having to face the barrel end of the gun in our continued genocide by the Americas, I know many people still do. Things really haven't changed that much at all.

So, during this holiday called Thanksgiving, I will let you know I have many things to be thankful for, but I also know how we got here and how I have the privilege of taking the time to be with family and friends in order to be thankful.

The empire is not done doing its horrible things in order to continue to amass wealth for the few.

You will also notice the bottom photograph of a U.S. soldier proudly holding his weapon. His name is Steven Green. A couple of Steven Green's friends, Paul Cortes and I forget the other one, are doing 99 years in military prison for raping and murdering Abeer Qassim al Janabi, a 13-year-old Iraqi girl. They also killed her parents and little sister. Steven Green was the trigger man according to the testimony. Steven Green is nothing new. Steven Green is nothing unusual. Steven Green was hired by King Dick and co-King George in order to oppress a peoples to steal their wealth and amass it to the few. Sound familiar. Nothing much changes.

People seem to have this fear of seeing such images. Of knowing these are things that are happening that actually do have an effect on them. Here in America, it helps effect our privilege as our gas prices are really underinflated and many folks are still driving around in their great big SUV's as status symbols.

Few think of how we got here. I do.

I think of these kinds of things a lot. You see, Shusli and I, we both have a genetic memory that haunts us to this day and undoubtedly into the future generations. We are survivors of genocide. This genocide was caused by folks like King Dick and co-King George and enacted out by hired thugs like Steven Green. It's been a long and horrific journey, and in our genetic memory, we still feel it.

And this, this is one of the ways in which I deal with it. I will show you simple beauty in the petals of a rose, and I will share with you photos and drawings of attrocities that have occurred in order for us to be thankful on Thanksgiving Day.

Unlike the extremely biased U.S. judicial system, I don't try to exclude evidence. I try to take in the whole, all of the evidence in an attempt to get at the truth. I try to understand patterns that occur in our society. Invasion, conquest, genocide, rape, murder, etc., are all a part of this society, but just not seen like pumpkin pie, roasted turkey, laughing with and enjoying family (in most cases). But these photos are of things that have brought us here.

Shusli and I have discussed quite a bit the fact that all folks that celebrate Thanksgiving in the U.S., are doing so on the blood of our peoples. It was the mass slaughter, terror, horror, rape, conquest, assimilation, etc., of our people that made this alleged great nation. As much as pretty much all Americans would simply Love to forget that part, I won't let them. Why? Because it still hasn't ended. There are reasons you have the PRIVILEGE of eating a feast and enjoying your family. A vast amount of those reasons involve the wholesale slaughter of millions, the oppression of millions, historically and currently, the theivery of other peoples lands and resources. You all, like I am, should be thankful you aren't currently at the business end of the rifle being held by folks like Steven Green and other hired killers for empire.

Mind you, vets folks, I understand that there are many reasons folks join the military (most of which the conditions are created by folks like King Dick and co-King George). I know that there are many kind hearted folks pulling the trigger and wondering how the fuck they got in that situation and often times coming back horrifically damaged themselves. But folks like King Dick and co-King George are always looking to create those cold blooded killers like Steven. You can't have the brutal arm of your dictatorship having a heart when they are ordered to murder women and children or do so on their own, like Steven did. Why, if folks like Steven actually questioned the reasons why they are being trained to use such brute force and actually learn the truth, they just might not do so, then where would the EMPIRE be?

The REAL CRIMINALS are folk like King Dick and co-King George.

So, on this Thanksgiving Day, I will be thankful for the privilege of my family no longer being murdered for empire. I will also be praying for those whose families are being murdered for empire and that we simply ignore because we can.

Tune in to KBOO, 90.7fm, on Thursday, November 22, from 7-11am for Genocide Cover-Up Day. We can also be heard on the web, www.kboo.fm.

Nothing Quite Like a...

...well hung squirrel.

Frog Recreates the Universe Through Words

Words clutter my mind
like laundry
on a teenagers floor.

I connect refrigerator poetry
and draw maps across the universe.

Photographs of Nebulae
Giving Birth to Planets
to fill galaxies with stars.

And each star
carries words
in a bent cedar wood box
with drawings of frogs
on folded pieces of paper.

Universes, Nebulae, Galaxies, Worlds, Planets
habitable and uninhabitable
pour from the ballpoint
of a cheap, plastic
Holiday Inn pen
and onto white pages
with horizontal black lines
drawn like asphalt
roadmaps
across a valley floor
where frogs cross
on rain filled afternoons
to find stories in other parts
of their world.
