Make Assessment Measure Up
Testing review Announced
An external Review of Key Stage 2 testing chaired by Lord Bew, was launched today, 5 November.
Christine Blower, General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers, the largest teachers’ union, commented on the launch with hopes that it would lead to assessment that is meaningful and focuses on what children can do.
“The NUT is firmly in favour of a system in which league tables have gone and schools are properly accountable to parents, carers and pupils through manageable teacher assessment.”

Where The Axe Will Fall
The Government tried to argue that it had protected schools from cuts in funding. In fact, the Spending Review will have a devastating impact on education as well as other vital public services. The Government has also confirmed its attack on our pensions, with a 3% rise in contributions. This is the latest NUT briefing on the Government Spending Review. Please make this available to colleagues in your staff room. For more detail, a longer briefing is available here. |
