specific
to Britain's oldest socialist party, formed in 1904, The
Socialist
Party
of Great
Britain.
For an introduction to socialism and much more
information
(including introductory information) on socialism and the World
Socialist Movement, of which we
are a member see the World
Socialist
Movement website which carries information common to all the
Companion
Parties of Socialism.
The World
Socialist
Movement (or WSM) consists of people who have
organised themselves democratically with one objective: to bring about
a complete change in world society. We are made up of companion
parties
and groups in several
countries.
The WSM is a
global socialist
movement that argues capitalism
cannot meet the
needs of the majority of us, the workers (or proletariat) of the
world, no matter how much it is reformed.
To meet these
needs we contend
that capitalism
must be replaced by socialism.
This pamphlet comes at a time when many
people are questioning the
destructive effects of capitalism, and also with it a rejection of
leaders and the traditional left.
This
is something that can be encouraged. The aim of the pamphlet
is to show that there is another view of social change that may be a
blind spot with those who get involved with anti-capitalist, activist
or/and anarchist politics.

"It Happened Here" (with
introduction
by
Simon
Wigley)
"The German invasion of England
took place in July, 1940 after
the British retreat from Dunkirk. Strongly resisted at first, the
German army took many months to restore order, but the resistance
movement, lacking outside support, was finally crushed. Then, in 1944,
the resistance movement reappeared......"

"The Battle of Orgreave" (with
introduction by Adam Buick)
"The
Battle
of
Orgreave
is the name given to a confrontation
between police and picketing miners at a British Steel coking plant in
Orgreave, South Yorkshire in 1984, during the UK miners' strike. In
1991, South Yorkshire police were forced to pay out half a million
pounds to 39 miners who were arrested in the events at the Battle of
Orgreave."
We can demonstrate until we are blue in the face, but as long as
the government keeps a firm hand on the state (the police and army),
they will get their way in the end. So targeting Lib-Dem politicians
and threatening them with electoral defeat is the surest way of putting
on pressure.
But the question is, who will take their seats if they are
ousted? Almost certainly another candidate that stands for cuts and
austerity. Lib-Dems, Conservatives, Labour and the Greens are all
simply factions of the Capitalist Party, the party that supports a
system that needs poverty and unemployment simply to exist. So we’ll
all be back on the streets protesting again.
We need to get organised to use elections to not simply change
personnel within the Capitalist Party, but to rid ourselves of the
system that demands these cuts. If we stand together, we can drive away
the owners of the world whose interests have created this crisis. We
can abolish poverty and unemployment....More >
