A couple of wonderful new pieces of art inspired by Peter's work have been submitted in the last couple of weeks. Make sure to check out a portrait of Ione Saldana from the Night's Dawn trilogy, done by Travis G. Lilley, and a second painting done Sault Estrada, depicting The Verona CST planetary station from the Commonwealth Saga

For those of you interested in what-if scenario's, Peter provided a piece of The Temporal Void that was cut from the final product. He writes: "The section which follows was removed from the Temporal Void, leading on directly after Paula found someone had downloaded the Cat's memory from its secure store on Kerensk. Contrary to popular belief, I don't simply try to write the longest story possible. And even as I started writing this section, which was introducing Morton from the Commonwealth Saga to the Void Trilogy, it was obvious to me that it was a plot-line too many. So I cut it. What was due to follow in both Temporal and Evolutionary was Morton and Paula teaming up to track down rogue technology suppliers, which would have led Paula to the secret Accelerator station that built the Swarm and the ultradrive engines for the pilgrimage ships. It might have been an excellent, thrilling ride for the reader, but I still can't convince myself of that. The trilogy is shorter and faster because of its absence, and in my opinion better for it. But I know a number of readers, especially those who use this website, were interested to know what happened to Morton after Judas Unchained. So here in what can now only be described as an event which never happened, is what he did next..."

Peter is happy to announce he has signed a new contract with MacMillan. There will be a collection of short stories out next year, as yet no title. Mostly ones already published, but he is going to be writing a couple more for it. This will be followed by a stand-alone novel, provisionally called "Great North Road" (But Peter is not sure that title will make it to the finished book).

Peter writes in with some news regarding the SFX Weekender convention: "For the SFX Weekender convention I'll hopefully be there from about midday Friday onwards. I'm driving down that morning after I've done the school run so I'm praying for reasonable weather and road conditions. If you're going please say hello -and no I'm not telling you who Aaron was. I'm scheduled to be on the British SF panel at 17:00 to 18:00 on Friday; and then I'm doing a reading and Q&A; session 18:30 to 19:00 on Saturday followed by a signing. There seem to be a lot of rules about approaching the various media stars for autographs at this event, let me just say that this doesn't apply to me. If you have a bagful of books you want signing just bring them along, if it's an exceptionally large bag you might get asked to go to the back of the queue but that's all. I'm also happy to sign stuff in the bar, because that's where I expect to be most of the time. The reading is supposed to be from an author's most recent or forthcoming book, which might be interesting. Every time I'm asked to do a reading I never know what section to read, however as most of you know Ozzie is returning (briefly) in Evolutionary Void I was thinking of the section where he makes his appearance. Of course there are a dozen earlier books to choose from as well. Anyone got a favorite bit? I'm open to suggestions posted on Mark's unisphere forum. And if you all nominate the naughty bits from Misspent Youth you're going to be disappointed."

Publication dates are not absolutely final yet, but The Evolutionary Void is tentatively scheduled for release in September 2010. And as a treat for Peter's US fans, this is the release date for both sides of the Atlantic! So there will be at most a couple of weeks difference between the UK and US releases. |
