io9.com is reporting The Sandman may be coming to television.
Warner Bros. TV is in the midst of acquiring television rights from sister company DC Entertainment and in talks with several writer-producers about adapting the 1990s comic. At the top of the list is Eric Kripke, creator of the CW’s horror-tinged “Supernatural.”
This is currently just a rumor, and it’s curious that it appeared just as Neil announced he was off the Internet for 18 days, which could mean “he’s off to work on pitches for a Sandman show” or “someone has taken advantage that he can’t immediately deny a rumor”.
“Over the years SFX, and its readers and their votes in the polls, have always been very kind to me. I thought I’d return the favour with what used to be called, in journalistic circles when I was a boy, a scoop.
As anyone who’s read my blog knows, I’m a big fan of a certain long-running British SF TV series. One that started watching — from behind the sofa — when I was three. And while I know it’s cruel to make you wait for things, in about 14 months from now, which is to say, NOT in the upcoming season but early in the one after that, it’s quite possible that I might have written an episode. And if I had, it would originally have been called “The House of Nothing”. But it definitely isn’t called that any more.
Countdown. You’ve got about 14 months.”
This makes me very, very happy. I’m a huge Doctor Who fan, and Neil + Who (plus the brilliant Steven Moffat having taken over the show, let’s not forget that!) is one of the best anythings ever.
to Amanda Palmer!
Here’s the announcement on Neil’s Journal.
Congratulations both!
Tor has one of Neil’s old stories (it says copyright 1986!) online, “I, Cthulhu, or, What’s A Tentacle-Faced Thing Like Me Doing In A Sunken City Like This (Latitude 47° 9′ S, Longitude 126° 43′ W)?“, along with the above marvelous illustration by Brian Elig.
Wired News has Comic Book Artists Illustrate Sci-Fi Legends where you can find this great drawing of Neil writing in a Graveyard as well as Alan Moore as a floating-ink apparition/wizard and many more.
Over at The Nervous Breakdown.
So I thought, When I talk to other people about Neil Gaiman, where does the conversation tend to go? Easy. In the end, I don’t tend to tell people the very private and permanent ways his writing takes hold of me. I tend to talk about his hair.
Odd and the Frost Giants Book Trailer, narrated by Neil
Shelfari has an article and a lot of gorgeous photos of Neil’s bookshelves.
Congrulations to Neil! The Graveyard Book just won the 2009 “Best Novel” Hugo!
