  • Twelfth Biennial Labour History Conference, 15-17 September 2011, Manning Clark Centre, ANU. The conference is being organised jointly by the Canberra Region Branch of ASSLH with the National Centre for Biography, ANU. The theme of the conference will be Labour History and Its People, with particular emphasis on the role of biography in the study of Australian labour history. Call for Papers: All intending contributors should send an abstract of not more than 500 words to the Convenor by 1 February 2011. For more information, click here.
  • Democracy vs Communism: Remembering the 1951 Referendum on the Banning of the Communist Party. Call for Papers. A conference to commemorate this historic event will be held in Melbourne on Thursday 22nd September 2011. A wide variety of perspectives are invited, including legal, political, social, cultural, transnational and autobiographical. If you would like to give a paper, please send proposals (with a title, short abstract and biographical note) by 30 November 2010 to Joy Damousi (j.damousi@unimelb.edu.au) or Ann Curthoys (Ann.Curthoys@sydney.edu.au). We hope to have an oral history section, so if you have personal memories of these events and would like to talk about them briefly, or if you know of someone else who fits in this category, please let us know.
