Why Join the IWW?

Workers and their employers do not have the same interests. Workers want shorter hours, higher pay, and better benefits. The easiest way to stand up for each other in our workplaces and communities and the easiest way to improve our working conditions is to join a union.

Collectives, Workers' Cooperatives, and the IWW:

A worker at a collective or co-operatively run business may join the IWW, provided that the individual does not have the direct ability to hire and fire personnel. IWW members in a collective or co-operatively run business may also petition the union for Job Shop status. This is accomplished by submitting a shop card application to the IWW General Secretary/Treasurer and the General Executive Board. Collectives and co-ops should also be prepared to furnish the union with a copy of their operational by-laws, and to be available to answer any questions from the General Executive Board regarding democratic structures in said workplace, including the process utilized to hire, discipline, and terminiate employment for workers.

For more questions regarding collective/co-op businesses and IWW membership, please contact the union's General Headquarters.
