Welcome

EOL Labs is an area of the website where the community can showcase new and interesting features and items being worked on that are not necessarily ready for release on the core EOL website or other areas. Keep in mind that this is a lab, so the projects shown might produce errors and the data might not match what you see on the live EOL website. Enjoy!

  • APIs - these APIs are in progress and are at an alpha-level, but if you are adventurous, look at the documentation and give them a try. Leave us feedback too!
  • Multiple hierarchy browsing - Use your preferences to select one or more alternate hierarchies (classifications) to browse EOL. If you select two hierarchies, they are dynamically merged using algorithms. The 'explore taxa' and the taxa on the home page are also restricted based on the hierarchies chosen. An expanded version of this could be used to created 'filtered' views of EOL (such as the "EOL of Marine Life"). A version of this browse mechanism is now out of labs and available live.
  • Image identification game - try and guess which image goes with which species name. The game is now available live.
  • EOL Navigational Translation Interface - Help us translate the navigational items in EOL into multiple languages
  • NameLink - Automatically discover taxon names and link names to various projects (such as EOL). NameLink is now available live.
  • Developer Screencasts - Learn more about how we code here at EOL (warning: non-geeks might be lost)

Head on over to the EOL Forums to discuss these or suggest new features with the "Feedback" tab on the left.
