Read in Scots and Gaelic

The Scottish Poetry Library is the place for poetry in Scotland, for the regular reader, the serious student or the casual browser.

Since its foundation in 1984 it has amassed a remarkable collection of written works, as well as tapes and videos. The emphasis is on contemporary poetry written in Scotland, in Scots, Gaelic and English, but historic Scottish poetry and contemporary works from almost every part of the world feature too.

All our resources, advice and information are readily accessible, free of charge. We also have collections for the visually impaired.

As well as borrowing books, audio or video cassettes free from the library, we offer a postal borrowing service at 50p per item, which includes a freepost return label. Email, phone or write to tell us what you want.

You can also borrow through the interlibrary loan system via your local library.

The Scottish Poetry Library offers:

  • Contemporary Scottish poetry
  • Poetry from around the world
  • Poetry for children
  • Poetry on cassette, CD and video
  • Current magazines and back numbers
  • Reading Room for members
  • Computerised references and searches
  • Extensive news cuttings

Outreach collections are also held at other Scottish locations.
