Web Coordinator's blog

What's so great about KBOO?

It seems that there are as many answers to the question as there are listeners and web surfers. The tapestry of culture centered in Portland that propagates the world is rich and vibrant with passion, purpose and peculiarity.

We want to know what keeps you coming back for more. There's so much variety that it's hard to imaging someone not finding something interesting or down right fascinating.

Is it the music, news, public affairs or other? As we approach the dry season, we invite you to share your perspective with us. Thanks for participating!

Web Coordinator 2.0

As KBOO's new web coordinator, one of my top priorities is to continue to encourage inclusive and decentralized contributions from the many. We want you on our team as we continue to build rich content, accessible functionality, unique design and interactive opportunities. The potential for growth is tremendous when we consider all that we have to share.

Goodbye to KBOO and Welcoming our New Web Coordinator

I'm sad to announce that this is my last month here at KBOO, as I will be moving away to be with family. I've found a wonderful second family here at the station and I hope that my time here has been a positive contribution.

While leaving will be difficult, I'm very happy we have selected Dan Gurin to take over my position and continue taking KBOO into the digital realm. The hiring committee had a tremendous amount of highly qualified candidates apply for the position, which made our selection process very challenging. But Dan stood out for a variety of reasons.

Creating Community Online

We've recently adopted KBOO's house rules to apply to our website and have posted our community guidelines.  Please read these so you are aware of our expectations of those participating in discussions on this site.

Best of the Free Music Archive 2009

At the beginning of the year, KBOO joined WFMU, KEXP and a handful of other stations for an experiment that challenged the basic rule of the recording industry since its foundation: you must pay for music.

I wasn't quite sure how musicians would react to the premise of the Free Music Archive - an interactive online library of free high-quality, legal audio downloads. Only a few big names like Radiohead are known for embracing this idea. But I did know that music lovers - the only reason a music industry exists - would be all over it.

Job Opening - Web Coordinator

Do you have a knack for online social networks, experience building websites, and a passion for community media?  We're looking to hire a new Web Coordinator to help redefine what radio can become in the digital realm.  KBOO is home to hundreds of volunteers looking to share their programs online and we need someone who can excel at working with diverse groups.

The position is half-time with excellent benefits and would begin in March.  Details on the job and the application can be found on our employment page.  Applications are due February 10th.

For Posting: Images

Make your post look great by inserting an image, or multiple images, to be displayed with your text.  With the new KBOO website, users will have a new way to upload images into their posts.  I've created this video to demonstrate.

KBOO's Website Reborn

KBOO is very happy to be bringing you a fully redesigned website.  We've been gathering feedback among website visitors, our listeners, our supporting members, and faithful volunteers on what we can bring to our online audience.  Please read on for all the exciting changes you'll see appear over the next few days.

Coming in KBOO.FM 3.0

We're very happy to announce that we have reached the testing phase of a major revision of the website with phase one of the upgrade this past weekend.  This revision is over a year in the making and includes improvements that have been reqested for quite some time, as well as other pleasant surprises.  The changes are so numerous that I've summarized the highlights into different categories.

Visual

  • Brand new, bright fixed-width visual design
  • Completely redesigned homepage with more ways to featue content
  • New pages for music and public affairs

Afro-Caribbean!

Categories:

A little bug occured recently that caused program pages to list a show as "Afro-Caribbean" if the page is updated.  That is fixed now but you may need to go back and reset your show's music genres or public affairs topics.
