Saturday 23rd October 2010

Viva Palestina convoy leaders declared their entry into Gaza a "breakthrough", smashing open the illegal siege that the Palestinian people of Gaza had imposed on them.

Another Fib-Dem broken promise

Wednesday 20th October 2010

One more day, one more broken promise. The Liberal Democrats, who previously opposed a new round of Nuclear Power stations, have once again ditched any pretence of principle and are now happily signed up to up to 8 new stations across the UK.

A quick visit to the Lib-Dems website reveals the following statement - "Both Labour and Conservatives support the construction of new nuclear power stations. More nuclear power will soak up subsidy, centralise energy production and hinder development of Britain's vast renewable resources. Nuclear has a dirty legacy and increases global security risks. We oppose construction of further nuclear power stations."

LibDem betrayal kicks away the ladder of opportunity

Monday 18th October 2010

Politicians who benefited from a free university education are now planning to kick away the ladder of opportunity for generations to come.

Earlier this week the coalition government welcomed Lord Browne's proposals to introduce a free market in higher education.

The plans represent a double assault on students - tuition fees are set to more than double to £7,000 per year and commercial interest rates will be introduced on student loans.

Newham Labour mayor plans to slash council workforce by two thirds

Monday 18th October 2010

Shocking documents have come into the possession of the Respect Party which show that Newham's Labour mayor, Sir Robin Wales, plans to slash the Newham council workforce by a half to two thirds as part of a massive cost cutting exercise.

In the power point presentation to the Newham's Strategic Management Board on 15th July, Wales claims that Newham Council services "often prevent people developing or taking opportunities". Using language more akin to that of the most rabidly right wing Tories, he goes on to say that "the current welfare state has not ended poverty and injustice" and "we've forced people into dependency".

An Age of Austerity

Two years ago, Lehman Brothers bank collapsed. It was the event that triggered the greatest recession the world has seen since the 1930's; a recession that will mark British politics for decades. None of us will escape its consequences. But for the banks, it is business as usual.

This seems a remarkable thing to say. After all, the bankers have been on the receiving end of huge amounts of public anger and indignation. But what has really changed?
